Driving To Disney World Could Be Easier SOON

It’s no secret that Disney World is basically a giant construction project right now.

Welcome to Disney World!

And, for those guests who drive to the Most Magical Place on Earth, dealing with traffic and construction on Interstate 4 is all too familiar. The interstate bisects Florida, and improvements have been underway for years. But, a new proposal could fast-track the I4 project — and bring easier access to Disney World too.

On January 30th, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a $7 billion proposal that would “speed the completion of 20 highway projects across the state,” according to Fox 35 Orlando.

The Moving Florida Forward plan would have taken around 20 years to complete, said the governor, but with this additional funding, DeSantis says the projects “will be finished in four years.”

He shared, “We are looking to widen existing roadways, making existing connections more efficient, expand intersections to be more free flowing, and this is going to improve traffic flow.”

Improved traffic flow is just the idea for the $1.451 billion reconstruction of Interstate 4 from Champions Gate to Osceola Parkway — an area that often sees traffic due to folks heading to Disney or other popular destinations nearby.

Where ya headed?

The Florida Department of Transportation is working on adding express lanes for this stretch of the I4 project, and shared “the project would improve existing roads and access ramps to ease traffic woes.” DeSantis’ proposal looks to speed things up.

DeSantis is expected to propose this road plan as part of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, which begins on July 1st.

  1. They already opened up a new route in the past day or two. No longer one way to get to the MK hotels. There’s a separate road that can drop you off just in front of Shades of Green and if you keep going straight, Grand Floridian. I work at Shades.
