Labor Day Weekend seemingly came and went in Disney World without much fanfare, despite what we’ve seen in years past.
Crowds were essentially nonexistent, and wait times certainly didn’t skyrocket as we’ve seen before. That didn’t seem to be the case for much of the United States, though, as domestic airports saw record-breaking numbers over the holiday weekend. So, just how many people traveled over Labor Day? We’ve got the numbers.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the number of travelers who passed through U.S. airport security checkpoints over a holiday weekend surpassed pre-pandemic levels.
More than 8.7 million people made their way through TSA from Friday to Monday, more than Labor Day weekend in 2019 — before the pandemic.
Friday saw the highest number of travelers, with 2.48 million people being screened by TSA. It’s also worth noting that there were fewer airline issues like delays and cancelations over the weekend, despite air travel having been rather tumultuous lately.
Passengers have been faced with delays and cancelations caused by short staffing, reduced flight schedules, and more. But, over the holiday weekend, only 640 flights were canceled by airlines, which is less than one-third of the prior cancelation rate from June 1st through Labor Day.
