There are a few times throughout the year that Disney World gets unusually busy.

The summer season is pretty popular, as is Spring Break and the holidays. But besides those, you’ll often find heavy crowds in the parks during long holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, and the like. Labor Day weekend is about to kick off now, so what can we expect from the crowds?
According to CNN, many experts have high hopes for travel this Labor Day weekend. This summer, we’ve seen around 55,000 flights canceled, but things are looking much better as we head into September. The travel app Hopper notes that 12.6 million passengers are scheduled to travel this weekend (with most of the travel happening Thursday and Friday) and experts are predicting that there will be fewer cancelations and disruptions than we saw earlier this year during Memorial Day weekend.

Scott Keyes, the founder of Scott’s Cheap Flights, shared that he believes there will be fewer travelers on Labor Day than there were on Memorial Day. He says, “With fewer travelers, you’re going to have less strain on the system.”
Flight schedules have also been pared down this fall, which leads to fewer cancelations. Kathleen Bangs, a spokesperson for FlightAware, shares that more than 52,000 flights have been dropped from U.S. carriers’ flight schedules. Domestic airfare has also dropped 37% as we head into the fall travel season.

So what does this mean for Disney World? Well, we’ve already noticed decreasing wait times in the parks the past few days and weeks, but it looks like that trend may continue. If Labor Day flight numbers are down, then that means we can expect less of a boom in the theme parks this weekend than we saw during holiday weekends earlier this year.
Memorial Day weekend brought heavy crowds and chaos, but it’s a possibility that Labor Day will be quieter. And if you’re planning on traveling after this holiday weekend, it’s a good idea to go ahead and purchase that airfare now while prices are low!
