10 BIG Things Happening in Disney World in September

The spooky season is officially underway in Disney World!

We’ve been tasting all the exclusive treats and even brought you with us to the first night of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. But, the festivities aren’t over yet as the party is just getting started. Let’s take a look at the important dates and big events happening in Disney World this September!

September 2nd: Liberty Square Riverboat Reopens

Occasionally, Disney has to close a certain ride or show to perform maintenance or repairs. The Liberty Square Riverboat closed for refurbishment on August 22nd, and we’ve been waiting for this relaxing Magic Kingdom attraction to reopen ever since.

Luckily, the wait will be over on September 2nd, when the riverboat will welcome guests once again!

September 2nd to 5th: Great Irish Hooley Music Fest at Raglan Road

Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Disney Springs is home to delicious food, live entertainment, and the Great Irish Hooley Music Fest! This marks the 10th year of this event that will bring Irish musicians, dancers, and other entertainers to Disney Springs.

The pub will feature new whiskeys, plus De Fesht, a special Hooley brew. The pub’s normal all-day menu will be available, but brunch will also be served from 10AM-3PM throughout the weekend and on Monday.

September 8th: Disney+ Day

Celebrate Disney’s streaming service at home OR in the parks, with special experiences and more in Disney World! Subscribers can enter ANY of the parks a whopping 30 minutes before they open — which is a LOT in Disney World time.

Of course, valid park admission and park pass reservations are still required, so keep that in mind if you want to take advantage of this benefit! Subscribers who are staying in Disney Resort hotels can enter the parks one hour before they open as well.

September 8th: DVC Moonlight Magic at Typhoon Lagoon

Disney Vacation Club members get all sorts of perks around Disney World, like discounts on hotels, merchandise, and more. One such perk — Moonlight Magic — allows members to have exclusive access to one of the parks.

On September 8th, DVC members can take advantage of Moonlight Magic at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park!

September 11th to 24th: Feathered Friends in Flight Closes for Refurbishment

Animal Kingdom is home to incredible theming, rides, shows, and more, but for a brief time this month, one of our favorite shows will be closed!

The show will be closing for refurbishment.

Feathered Friends in Flight is a bird show that takes place daily in Animal Kingdom but will be unavailable from September 11th to 24th for refurbishment. We’re not sure what Disney is refurbishing, but we can’t wait to see the changes.

September 14th: Annual Passholder Merchandise Discount Increases

Typically, Disney World Annual Passholders receive 20% off their purchases at most Disney World retailers. But, an exclusive and limited-time perk is on the horizon that is anything but spooky and scary.

Annual Passholders receive 30% off their purchases at most Disney World retailers from September 14th to October 14th — that’s an extra 10% off! This might be the perfect opportunity to knock out some of that holiday shopping.

September 20th: Crystal Palace Character Dining Returns

When Disney World reopened after the pandemic-related closures, not all experiences returned. Slowly but surely, normal character interactions have come back to the parks — including character dining.

And on September 20th, Winnie the Pooh and his friends will be greeting and visiting with guests while they dine at Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. We can’t wait to see Pooh Bear, Piglet, and Tigger again!

September 27th: ‘Ohana Character Dining Returns

Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, ‘Ohana has been missing characters since it reopened as well. But that all changes on September 27th when Lilo and Stitch return to this character meal!

Now you can enjoy your delicious Disney breakfast while cutting up with Experiment 626!

September 29th: DVC Moonlight Magic at Animal Kingdom

DVC Members get another chance to check out some Moonlight Magic, this time over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom typically closes pretty early, so getting the chance to hang out in the park after dark is rare — take advantage of this special perk if you can!

September 29th: Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit Begins

Disney hasn’t pulled out all the stops for Halloween just yet — there’s a spooky scavenger hunt coming to EPCOT! Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit will take you on the search for pumpkins decorated and painted to look like Disney characters.

This haunting hunt is just like the Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit that takes place in Disneyland.

As you can see, it is a BUSY time to visit Disney World this September — there’s so much to see and do! Plus, ongoing celebrations are happening this month too, like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, and we’re still in the midst of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration!
