NEWS: E.U. Removes the U.S. from Safe Travel List Due to COVID-19

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have been rising in the U.S. over the last couple of months due to the new Delta variant and other factors.

World leaders inside and outside the U.S. are considering additional restrictions to slow the spread. In response to America’s rising numbers of COVID cases, the European Union reversed their previous recommendation to allow U.S. travelers inside E.U. countries for nonessential travel.

According to NBC News, the European Union recommended to all 27 countries that they should place restrictions on tourists coming in from the United States. This is in response to the rising cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the U.S. from COVID recently.

Earlier this summer, the E.U. recommended allowing U.S. tourists into the countries for the tourist season. Although they have reversed this recommendation, it isn’t mandatory that all E.U. countries follow their advice. If you’re planning to travel to an E.U. country soon, you will probably see a variety of different restrictions, depending on the country. Some of these might include mandatory quarantines, COVID-19 tests, COVID vaccinations, or a full ban on non-essential travel from U.S. citizens.

Face mask signage is abundant in Disney World so guests know the latest policies.

The E.U.’s “safe travel” list has a threshold of no more than “75 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days.” If a country exceeds that threshold, they are removed from the list.

Orlando International Airport

The UK is not included in this recommendation, as they left the E.U. earlier this year. Currently, travel to the UK is open to fully vaccinated U.S. citizens. Keep following AllEars for more updates about travel in the U.S.
