At Disney World, things happen. Sometimes weather shuts down rides, sometimes rides malfunction, and sometimes rides close for other reasons.

But at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, rides can close down because of the unpredictability of animals.
And that’s exactly what happened this morning. When we got to Animal Kingdom we got in line for Kilimanjaro Safaris, and as we were about to board, the ride closed . A Cast Member told us that an animal was blocking the safari cars (or more likely, the road the cars drive on). Guests were told it could be a while before the ride reopened, but offered passes for those standing in line to return later.

The Cast Member told us the ride might reopen sometime after lunch, but they have to get word from the animal program that it’s okay to resume. In the meantime, it sounds like an animal decided to take a nap in the middle of the road and guests are just going to have to wait it out. And yes, this does happen more often than you might think.

But isn’t that part of the fun of Animal Kingdom? You never know what the animals are going to do, even if what they do holds up everything else in the process.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated, so stay tuned!
UPDATE: Kilimanjaro Safaris has reopened since the writing of this post.

I would love to hang out at the Safari while somebody takes a nap! And it goes to show the care they give these animals that they’re just not making it move. Of course with my luck, I would need to use the restroom and then be on the truck for 2 hours LOL
