We’ve already been hinting at a few of our theories since WandaVision has basically rewritten the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. But, episode 6 has our thoughts spinning because there are a lot of details and clues.

And, thanks to our AllEars team and BuzzFeed, we’re giving you a look at 12 details that you may have missed during your WandaVision watch party!

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

References to Malcolm in the Middle

If you grew up in the early 2000s, you probably spent your afternoons watching the chaos that took place in Malcom in the Middle. Since the Maximoff-Vision family is just as chaotic, it’s no wonder there were plenty of references to the show in this week’s episode!

The opening sequence has lyrics that talk about not questioning what you’ve done, whether everything is “an illusion,” and that you should just “sit back and enjoy the show.” The reference to Pietro’s appearance is even mentioned through the lyric “Though there may be no way of knowing who’s coming by to play.”

The opening sequence has some of the same text from Malcolm in the Middle, while the house even has a few resemblances to the one in the show. Tommy and Billy start the episode off like Malcom by breaking the fourth wall and addressing viewers directly.

Comic Book Costumes

There are so many little references to the comic books in WandaVision, but our favorite so far has been the costumes in this Halloween episode! Wanda and Vision’s outfits are very much a direct nod to their original Scarlet Witch and Vision costumes from the comics

…while Billy has an outfit similar to his Wiccan costume. And, Tommy and Pietro are fashioning a nod to Quicksilver’s costume from the comics. And, we know that the twins finally got their speed and telekinetic powers this episode (sigh, they grow up so fast)!

Agnes is even dressed as a witch, which is another hint that she could be Agatha Harkness — a powerful witch that mentors Wanda in the comics.

Pietro’s Not Who He Seems

Now that Evan Peters is in the picture, it was about time Marvel commented on the differences between his role in X-Men and the MCU. Peters’ version of Pietro is actually named Peter in X-Men, so that’s why he refers to himself as “Uncle Peter” in this week’s episode.

©Marvel

Wanda questions Pietro about his life and memories, specifically noting the fact that his accent is missing. While this is a playful nod to the fact that Wanda’s accent has disappeared as well, it’s also referencing the fact that the X-Men “Peter” grew up in the states and doesn’t have a Sokovian accent.

It’s yet another nod that this isn’t the Pietro we’ve seen before. However, this Pietro does have old Pietro’s memories since he says he remembers getting shot “for no reason at all,” and Wanda sees his dead body as he appeared at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. (Has “I see dead people” become Wanda’s new tag line for this Halloween episode?)

Since Peter has Pietro’s memories, this could be due to the fact that Wanda and whoever else is behind this alternate universe is able to manipulate people’s minds and create false memories and identities. It’s clear that Peter is an entirely different version of Pietro, but he has been molded to fit into Wanda’s reality.

©Marvel

That means he may be “dead” in a way to Wanda here with appearances of the old Quicksilver, because she doesn’t fully understand that this version of Quicksilver in the X-Men version is alive and well. Hence, that rip in the multiverse is looking more and more likely, folks!

Poignant Film References

If you quickly look at the marquee on the theater, you’ll see that there are two late 90s and early 2000s films playing as a reference to the in-between era this episode is set in! The Parent Trap and The Incredibles are playing, which are references to the double pair of twins the Maximoff family has (and the reuniting of two long-lost twins) as well as the superhero family that WandaVision follows.

Mickey Mouse, Is That You?

This is Disney’s MCU, so there was a sneaky reference to good ol’ Mickey Mouse on Darcy’s watch this week. (We knew we liked Darcy for a reason!)

That Wild and Weird Commercial

Yo-Magic honestly brought back a TON of nostalgia for us with a few references to Go-Gurt and Danimals Crush Cup commercials. But, obviously, Yo-Magic is a lot more sinister (and apparently a lot less delicious). Although the commercial could point to how alone and empty Wanda has felt after Avengers: Endgame

…we think there’s probably a reference to the fact that someone is usurping Wanda’s magic to do their own bidding. The shark, which is often a reference to a crafty person that takes advantage of people, could have literally offered Wanda something in exchange for “snacking” on her magic. After all, this alternate reality probably feels like the only way Wanda can truly “survive” in her mind.

Nick Fury’s “Cameo”

Remember how Peter joked about their mother’s homemade Halloween costumes that they hated? Well, Peter was wearing an eye patch like  Nick Fury, and we know that the twins hated S.H.I.E.L.D. after their parents were killed by them. But, we have to say that little Peter ROCKS that eye patch, even if he hated the outfit!

Reference to the Kick-Ass Superhero Films

Did you know that BOTH actors who have played Quicksilver were in another superhero movie together? Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters starred together in the hit film Kick-Ass, which Tommy references when he calls his Uncle Peter’s super-speed “kick-ass.” It’s a small world in WestView, everybody!

The Juicy Sweats Tell All

Juicy sweatpants were ALL the rage in the early 2000s. And, Agnes is not only trying to be a fashionista, but her sweats even hit that she’s “naughty” and has a few bad intentions for WestView. Plus, Agnes confirmed Monica’s earlier comment that Wanda is behind a LOT of the WestView anomaly.

“Naughty” Pointing to Agnes’ true nature ©Disney/Marvel

She was actually the first person to straight-up tell Vision about Wanda directly instead of referring to her as, “she,” like other people have. She also told him that he’s dead. If Agnes is actually Agatha Harkness, she could also be mind-controlled by Wanda and a bigger bad at this point (even though we know that she’s aware of the WestView situation).

Um, Will Everyone Get Super Powers?

We’re one step closer to PHOTON, friends! Darcy tells Monica that her cells have been rewritten after she’s entered and exited the “hex” two times. And, Monica is ready to go back yet again, so it’s pretty much a matter of time before she receives her Photon powers.

©Disney/Marvel

But, that has us wondering, are ALL of these people about to have their cells rewritten with a few supernatural powers if Monica has at this point?

Hayward’s Up to No Good

Repeat after me: Hayward is VERY suspicious, and we don’t trust him. He’s all too keen to get Jimmy, Darcy, and Monica out of there quickly to deal with WestView in whatever capacity he can. Some fans have noted that he could even be Mephisto himself, but we think that Hayward’s actually a secret part of an evil organization.

©Marvel

That’s right — we’ve seen far too many Hydra references for them to be unimportant. And, Hayward himself even is an anagram for Hydra with HaYwARD spelling out HYDRA. At one point, Hydra does infiltrate S.W.O.R.D., so we’re just going to wait for that big reveal.

©Marvel

And, wouldn’t it make sense why Vision’s body was being experimented on? It only points to yet another reason why Wanda would angrily break into that lab to steal his body. Hydra’s all about creating big baddies through genetic mutation, and Wanda even says, “no more mutants,” at the end of “House of M.”

Clues Towards Mephisto or Even Nightmare

And, we’re back to our theories about the overarching villain of the next MCU phase! Wanda tells Billy and Tommy not to go past Ellis Avenue, which is right at the edge of WestView. When Vision takes a nice nightly stroll to that exact location, he is at a “crossroads” of leaving the town and literally the street corner.

©Disney/Marvel

It’s pretty important to note that crossroads are a spot in folklore that is used to summon the devil. And, it’s pretty telling that Agnes is specifically stuck there in a trance since Mephisto could be manipulating her from this one area. It would make sense why Agnes starts to cry, because that would be a LOT of darkness to handle.

©Marvel

Peter even says, “Dammit, if Westview, New Jersey isn’t charming as hell,” (because this could actually be a living hell) and, “Unleash hell, demon spawn!” to the twins who have pieces of Mephisto’s soul rooted in them.

Wanda has said she doesn’t know how she created WestView, so there is clearly someone else pulling the strings. Yet, there is a possibility that the MCU could be combining Nightmare and Mephisto into one character since there are a lot of “dream-like” qualities to the characters and the town so far.

©Disney | Marvel

There’s a lot to think about with this episode, especially after that huge cliffhanger. And, we already know that we’re in for an adventure of a lifetime after seeing Wanda’s reality begin to crumble even further. As the next few episodes premiere, we’ll be sure to give you our thoughts and theories about what’s happening with WandaVision and the MCU!

  1. I think whenever the hex collapses all the inhabitants of westview will pass through it mutating their cells, and thats how we will have the full introduction of mutants into the MCU.

  2. “And, Hayward himself even is an anagram for Hydra with HaYwARD spelling out HYDRA,”

That’s…not how anagrams work. You can’t just ignore the letters that don’t fit.

  3. These are all cool!! However, I watched the episode with subtitles and Pietro refers to himself as Uncle P, not Uncle Peter
