It’s been a little while since we’ve checked in on the progress on the live-action remake of Disney’s Hercules.
Last year, Disney announced that the film would be joining the many live-action remakes of classic Disney movies. And, if you’ve seen the remakes of Beauty and The Beast, Mulan, or Aladdin, you’re probably pretty excited about this too!
We finally are hearing from the big names who are working on the film and they hinted that the remake might be much more than just a story about Hercules.
On the Lights Camera Barstool podcast, Joe Russo, one of Hercules producers, opened up about the progress and what fans can expect from the film. Joe Russo will be working with his brother Anthony Russo to produce the film and you might recognize them from a Marvel film or two!
The Russo brothers had a hand in creating the Marvel Universe and it sounds like their expertise might be put to the test by Disney. When discussing Hercules, Russo suggested that the story may develop the Disney Cinematic Universe.
He said, “It is still in development, the script is about to come in a week. We’ve taken a lot of time and care with it. They want to see something really cool that they wanna get lost in it for a decade, so that’s our mission is to provide them with that experience.”
This isn’t a new concept for Disney though. Disney has been using new movies as a jumping-off point to create more intertwined movies such as a prequel based on Disney’s Aladdin remake.
Russo also commented that the Hercules remake will tell the story in a new way compared to the classic Disney animated movie. It certainly sounds like Disney is taking a page out of Marvel’s book to create something resembling a Disney Cinematic Universe!
