Two weeks ago, Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 would be released in theatres and on HBO Max on December 25th.

Movie theatres are taking limited capacities and audiences are being encouraged to stay home. This has convinced companies to release new movies directly onto streaming channels. Disney has taken the lead by releasing Mulan on Disney+ and will do the same for Soul. Warner Bros. is following Disney and other companies by doing the same with all their upcoming releases.
Not only will Warner Bros. release Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max, but all 17 of the new releases slated to arrive in 2021 too.
The following new movies will be released in theatres and HBO Max on the same day:
- The Little Things
- Judas and the Black Messiah
- Tom & Jerry
- Godzilla vs. Kong
- Mortal Kombat
- Those Who Wish Me Dead
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
- In The Heights
- Space Jam: A New Legacy
- The Suicide Squad
- Reminiscence
- Malignant
- Dune
- The Many Saints of Newark
- King Richard
- Cry Macho
- Matrix 4

Entertainment Weekly quoted Anna Sarnoff, Chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios, “With this unique one-year plan, we can support our partners in exhibition with a steady pipeline of world-class films, while also giving moviegoers who may not have access to theaters or aren’t quite ready to go back to the movies the chance to see our amazing 2021 films.”
Some companies like AMC Theaters reopened to the public showing some new releases and replays of old favorites. The rise of streaming new releases may have some long-term effects on movie theatres. We’ll be curious to see if more companies follow in-step with Warner Bros. and Disney.

This is a benefit for me has I get HBO Max with my HBO subscription but I am SO TIRED of having to get a dozen streaming subscriptions in order to watch new movies or shows.
Meanwhile, I pay for HBO though Spectrum but cannot get Max because I have a Roku TV. I know, first world problems but you’d think my subscription would get me access.
