Now, it is being reported that Mears Transportation, who operates Disney’s Magical Express, has laid off workers across Central Florida over the past few weeks.

According to the Orlando Business Journal, 104 employees were laid off from the Orlando-based company. Some of these employees included those that help with the company’s shuttle and taxi operations, along with Disney’s Magical Express.

Roger Chapin, executive Vice President of public affairs for Mears, confirmed to the Orlando Business Journal that the company had 950 employees prior to the global health crisis. When the state of Florida issued a statewide stay-at-home order in April, the company responded by furloughing 83% of its workforce.

While Chapin could not confirm whether there would be additional impacts to the company, he told the Orlando Business Journal that, “We are adjusting through the environment, as all businesses are today. The goal is to keep the doors open for the return of business — whenever that happens — and rehire employees as we can.”

  1. We always depend on Disney Magical Express service. It is dependable, comfortable and free! How I will miss the luggage service they provide. No more hassle free, with my luggage showing up in my room like magic! Now we have to schlep four heavy suitcases from the plane, to the bus , off the bus and to our room. Repeat when returning. So sad to have this burden! Hopefully full luggage service will return soon. We will miss it bigly. After all, I’m not getting any younger!
