One of Disney’s biggest competitors in the streaming game, Netflix, has also been thriving with everyone shut inside. In fact, their record numbers of views have shot them to the top of the stock market–ahead of Disney!

According to Forbes, the streaming giant is now worth $194 billion after increasing its market value more than $50 billion so far this year. Disney meanwhile, has dropped to being worth approximately $184 billion from its previous pedestal of $258 billion.

The huge increase is likely due to the fact that Netflix is entirely dependent on paid subscriptions for the streaming service, whereas Disney has a much wider range of entertainment options, including their film, theme park, and products divisions, which have all been hit heavily by the current health crisis.

According to analyst Rich Greenfield, “The reality is [Netflix] ha[s] much more content in the pipeline than anyone else right now.” Recently, the streaming service has seen new series such as Tiger King and The Witcher rack up large streaming numbers.

Like the rest of the entertainment industry, Netflix has had to stop production on new movies and shows for the time being, though this has helped them to free up cashflow and increase revenue for the time being.
