First Look: Disney Skyliner Gondolas in Action

As we reported recently, testing of Walt Disney World’s new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, has begun. Today, Disney released the first official images of a Skyliner gondola in action, as it traveled between Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which will serve as the hub of the system, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

The Skyliner system is slated to begin operations this fall. It will connect the Studios with Epcot, as well as four Walt Disney World Resort hotels: the Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and the soon-to-open Disney’s Riviera Resort.

As part of the test runs, still-wrapped Skyliner gondolas traveled to the hub station at Caribbean Beach, across Victory Way, to the station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and back again.

According to Walt Disney Imagineering more gondolas will soon be added to the line, while testing and training continues. The cabins remain covered during testing now, but will eventually reveal a variety of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars character designs.

    1. We don’t know for sure yet whether the Skyliner will be accessible, but Disney strives to be ADA-compliant, so I’m guessing that if there’s a way to accommodate wheelchairs/ECVs in the gondolas, they’ll do it.

  1. There would have to be a maximum weight limit, not just a maximum number of people. Eight 350 lb adults is a very different passenger load than a couple of adults with six kids.

        1. I beg to differ. Disney doesn’t give away anything for free. You only get it if you pay the full retail price of a vacation package. Who does that when you can save many hundreds of dollars on discount packages?

So, that “free” dining IS costing a pretty penny.

  2. Anxious for this to be operational. Love Epcot and Hollywood Studios. With Florida Residents pass we can easily see both in one day. And get there on a wonderful ride!!
    Can’t wait!! ?
