Review of Flying Fish Cafe

Husband & I dined here in early November 2012. The food here was good, no real complaints about that. With a name like "Flying Fish" you'd expect a very large seafood selection and that was not the case. The menu mirrored California Grill so we were a tad bit disappointed we had gone out of our way (from the Polynesian that's a monorail and bus ride) to get here. What we had hoped for was a nice spread of seafood selections. We both had the scallops over risotto, and it was good.. but we had a similar dish the night prior at California Grill.. as I stated the menus were pretty much the same.. save for no sushi offerings.

If you just happen to be staying in the area of Hollywood Studios then this place is a great option to save travel time or can't get a table at California Grill. However if you want seafood, stick with Fulton's in Downtown Disney.

Pros:

Takes Dining Plan (Deluxe)

Cons:

Food just ok, not worrth going out the way

Review of Mickey's Backyard Barbecue

My family and I (my husband, 4 year old daughter and myself) wanted to go to one dinner show during our stay at Disney. We were going to pick the Hoop Dee Do musical review since we had heard so much good about it. My travel agent suggested that Mickey's Backyard BBQ, would be a much better pick for a 4 year old and that we would love this show.

So we arrived a little over an hour early (as we were advised to do) so that we would get a good seat, since it is first come, first serve. We were the second family in line and by the time we were taken out to the area where some of the character's were signing autographs and taking pictures, we were like the 4th or 5th family in line...such rude people. But we didn't bother saying anything...not Disney's fault. Well we were giving horrible seats...we were right beside the stage...literally beside it so really we couldn't see all that well. I thought that being since we were almost first in line, they would seat those people front and center.

The food was pretty good, it was hot and they came and refilled the food so that everyone could go back for more if they wanted. Free refills on beer and wine and a nice dessert selection.

The show was entertaining, would have enjoyed it much more if we would of had a better seat. Soo overcrowded though...they need to regulate the crowds better. Too many people/kids for their to be enough room for them all to get up and dance.

The characters didn't seem to want to be bothered with the kids...I didn't expect one on one time with the characters but I would have liked for my daughter to have gotten to at least be a little close to them. So since we were fighting to see the character's you really didn't get to enjoy the meal.

All of this and we just spent 2 meal choices! Never again!

Pros:

Ok food and plenty of it

Cons:

Not worth 2 meal plan choices

Review of Chip and Dale Harvest Feast at The Garden Grill

My sister and I dined here on 1/18. We were seated about 10 minutes after our 7pm reservation. We were seated on the top level of the restaurant, which we actually preferred because it gave us a little privacy from the people in the pavilion staring in at the diners and characters.

The food was excellent. Being only 2 of us, we did not need seconds although the portions did look small upon arrival. The salad was delicious, and the beef was very tender. We received both cupcakes and some sort of cake with a fruit center for dessert. The cupcakes didn't impress us (especially compared to Be Our Guest the day before) but the cake was delicious, especially with the banana whipped cream!!

The character interaction was AMAZING. Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale all came around multiple times to visit with us. Since there were only 2 of us, they even sat at our table to "talk" and take pictures. We felt these were the most personal interactions we found anywhere, and we loved that they came back multiple times.

The rotating restaurant was a little strange to get used to at first, but we enjoyed the changing scenery and looking over the land ride, even from the top tier.

This was my favorite dining experience of my trip and I wouldn't hesitate to return here again!

Pros:

Character interaction, rotating restaurant, food

Cons:

NONE!

Review of Be Our Guest Dinner

My sister and I dined here on 1/17. Upon walking into the castle, we were given a brief tour of "the master's home" by our hostess. We were seated at a table for 2 in the ballroom. The atmosphere is breathtaking-I felt like I could see the movie happening around me!! Our waitress invited us to tour the other rooms and take pictures after our meal. Twice while we were there, our waitress gave us the heads up that the Beast would be greeting guests, and we were able to get our cameras ready and snap a picture of him walking through the dining room. We were able to meet him in his study after dinner, which was very cool-especially because there was no line.

This food was the best we had eaten all week. I had the steak with vegetables and french fries and it was easily the best steak I have ever had!!! I can't remember what my sister had (seafood, I think) but she raved about hers as well. We were told by a cast member outside to ask about the grey stuff, and our waitress was kind enough to bring it to us even though my birthday was actually several weeks earlier. It was delicious, as promised, and came in a very fun presentation.

I had the strawberry cupcake and my sister had the passion fruit cream puff for dessert-both were excellent. The cupcake was light and not too sweet, perfect after a filling meal.

My only complaint is that the tables are VERY close together-I felt as if we were sitting with the table of 2 next to us, rather than at a neighboring table. Luckily they were very nice, but it was definitely a little awkward.

I cannot wait to eat here again on my next trip.

Pros:

Food, atmosphere, meeting the beast, the grey stuff!

Cons:

tables are very close together

Review of Le Cellier Lunch/Dinner

This used to be one of our favorite dining experiences and would countdown until the 180 days before arrival when I would make reservations (normally 3-4 in a two week stay). When we speak of change being good, I usually don't equate that phrase with Disney and Le Cellier drives my point home. From the Beef and Barley Soup and Maple Glazed Salmon to the wonderfully delicious Filet with Maple BBQ Sauce and Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes, Prime Rib Sandwich (all of which are no more), I cringe every time the menu/ chef changes at this restaurant and the latest is the worst. The merger of lunch/ dinner menu has essentially become a dinner menu and the yummy BBQ burger is no more. With the exception of the Cheddar Cheese Soup, they have now removed all of our favorites and added nothing that could take their places. I have never been a fan of the Dining Plan, so the two credit meal change for lunch and dinner will be a good thing as it may deter some of the plan diners, but sadly the menu may deter non-plan diners as with everything in Disney, prices have gone up once again while quantity, variety (differing from other menu options available at other locations) and quality have gone down. Oh, so disappointed.

Pros:

Cheddar Cheese Soup

Cons:

Menu changes, limited space

On our last morning my husband went down to pick up Mickey waffles for our boys as a goodbye breakfast. Each order had 3 Mickey waffles, syrup and a cluster of grapes and was $6.99. It was more than enough for our kids and they each had one waffle leftover. The waffles have changed since our last visit and are the whole wheat variety now. The boys still enjoyed them but I missed the "malt" flavor of the old version!

Pros:

Convenience

Review of French Market Restaurant

We had a wonderful lunch at the French Market. I enjoyed the fabulous Corn Chowder in a sourdough bowl. Wonderful! My husband had the Market French Dip and really liked it. I managed to sneak a bite and it was quite good! It came with "Cajun Chips" that had great flavor and crunch.
The kids meal choices were good. We had one order of Macaroni and Cheese which tasted fresh and was very cheesy. It looked deceptively small as it is served in a little bowl on top of a larger plate. Once we dumped it onto the plate for easier eating you could see how much was really there. It was served with carrot/celery sticks and grapes. We also had the kids pasta with marinara sauce (he chose to have the sauce on the side). Again, it looked smaller than it was. The pasta was a bit buttery for my taste but my son loved it! The same sides were served with it.
We did not try dessert but I really wanted to! They had beautiful cupcakes for the Mardi Gras season and a layered chocolate cake that looked amazing. Actually all their desserts looked amazing! But the meals were filling and there was no room for dessert at that time. I kept meaning to go back for a snack one day but never made it.
The outdoor seating is very nice and the live Jazz band was wonderful and definitely added to the ambience.
The meal was $34 (after DVC discount). Kids meals come with drinks, adults had ice water.

Pros:

Atmosphere, Jazz Music, Plenty of choices
