We took a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness Campground during the Christmas Holidays. The carriage driver was very friendly and chatty and made the ride a pleasure. We rode through the campground and got to see all of the camper decorations which made this ride extra special. At the end we got a special disney pin and pictures with the horse and driver. A great way to make the holidays special.

Pros:

Fun, relaxing, special treat

My husband and I loved the carriage ride we took through POR on our honeymoon last year so we took another one with my mom on our arrival evening. Rookie the horse was very well trained and gave a smooth ride. I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for a little extra magic at a great price. Our driver even let us take pictures right next to Rookie.

Pros:

Fun non-park experience

We took the time to take a horse drawn carriage ride at Port Orleans Riverside but we had some issues. There were two carriages going at a time and we just got in the one closest to us. The route ours took went across Ol’ Man Island, down the main walking path for Magnolia Bend near the river, around the end of Building 95, then turned around and came back. We were disappointed because we had been staying in Magnolia Bend for the length of our stay and this route was nothing special to us because we were walking it daily. The other carriage, we came to find out later, went down to French Quarter which we would have enjoyed quite a bit more. Just bad luck on that one but you may wish to ask the driver which route you are going on if you have a preference.

However, on our return to the main building a service vehicle began following our carriage pretty closely which totally spoiled our mood with the bright headlights and noisy engine. We were followed until we crossed the bridge to Ol’ Man Island and then took the opposite fork in the road. It was very annoying and I finally spoke to a manager as we checked out and she refunded half of the price of our ride.

I would not totally discourage you from attempting a horse drawn carriage ride, just be cautious since there is an additional cost for a ride that was just over 20 minutes.

Pros:

Romantic, relaxing, fun way to see the resort

Cons:

Service vehicle followed closely, route issue

My family reserved a carriage ride out of POR on June 6th at 9pm. This was our third time scheduling this activity. It is a fun, relaxing, inexpensive way to end a day in WDW. The ride is only 30 minutes long, but our carriage took us along the river from POR to POFQ and back. It's very scenic. We all enjoyed it, and I wouldn't hesitate to reserve it again during our next trip.

Pros:

Relaxing, Scenic and Inexpensive

My mom, a friend, and I participated in the 6pm wagon ride on 12/16. This is a very inexpensive thing to do at Disney, for $8/adult. Our driver was Austin and our horses were Rookie and Chief. The wagon was full (about 30 people) but we were all comfortable. I saw some people brought blankets to keep warm.

We got a beautiful view of the Contemporary and Magic Kingdom at one short stop. Also a great way to see all the campground decorations, which are stellar!

After the ride, we went to the stable to say hello to the horses and I was surprised to find a nice exhibit on the role that horses have played in the Disney company. It was very nice (and free!), and there is also a calliope from the early 1900s that plays music!

Pros:

Inexpensive, great way to see the grounds

We went on a sleigh ride in December. Loved the horses and "sleigh" all decked out for Christmas and the bells were really nice. Amazed at the decorating that the campers do. It was a really nice relaxing experience at a very affordable price. Was one of the highlights of the trip for us.
