The Disney fandom is made up of several different types of Disney fans, and one particular sect has a wickedly cool event.

While events like Dapper Days hog the spotlight, Goth Days at the Disneyland Resort remain HUGE! Officially known as Bats Day in the Fun Park, this celebration of goth subculture within the Disney fandom has been around for a while, and it’s a blast!
Originally established in 1999, Bats Day in the Fun Park is a convention-like event that is held at Disneyland once a year. This year, you can experience it on May 2nd and May 3rd!

Per the official event, “Bats Day attracts people from all dark subculture genres and walks of life, from Deathrock to Goth, Industrial to Steampunk, Rockabilly to Psychobilly, Halloween, DisneyGoth and anywhere in between, all for the love of Disneyland, to have some spooky fun at the Disneyland Resort, CA, with meeting spots and photo ops.”

Although it’s not an official Disney event, it’s become a staple at Disneyland. It started in August 1999 as a simple park meet organized by promoters of the goth clubs Absynthe and Release the Bats. Since then, it’s become much bigger. While it did include hotel events, it has scaled back recently to just a two-day event.
Of note, Bats Day is NOT a themed dress-up event — as participants dress like this every day. We’re talkin’ legitimate goth everyday fashion.

As part of the Disney fandom, Bats Day emphasizes family-friendly behavior and attire that falls in line with the Disney Parks rules. As such, Disney has become welcoming of this event and its compliance, albeit by officially sponsoring the event.

This year’s event will include Bats Day Black Market at the Vogel Victorian (11 AM to 6 PM) and will not require paid admission, followed by a pre-event concert at The Observatory OC. on Saturday, May 2nd. Tickets for the concert can be purchased through the links provided by the Bats Day social media accounts and/or website.
Sunday’s schedule will consist of a Baby Bats photo-op at King Arthur Carousel at 11 AM, a Mark Twain Riverboat ride-along and a photo-op at 1 PM, a main group photo at Sleeping Beauty Castle at 4 PM, a photo station at Snow White’s Wishing Well at 6 PM, and a Haunted Mansion ride-along at 8 PM.
