We Know What Every Disney Adult Will Be Doing January 22nd

Have you heard of the new Disneyland documentary coming out soon? We were able to see a preview of the movie, and we have so much to share.

Disneyland Handcrafted

Disneyland Handcrafted is coming out on Disney+ on January 22nd and was directed by Leslie Iwerks. She created The Imagineering Story, a Disneyland documentary series you can find on Disney+. This film takes us back to the start of Disneyland and gives us an insider’s look at how the parks were built.

We were able to catch a preview of the documentary at our favorite AMC Theater located at Disney Springs, where they rolled out the red carpet. No, really, there was a red carpet! There was also some Disneyland popcorn to grab. You know we had to have some because you can’t think Disneyland without thinking popcorn (okay, maybe y’all don’t, but we’re usually deep in popcorn bucket news, so we always do).

Popcorn and a movie!

After a quick introduction with Leslie Iwerks herself, which was so neat to see her in person. Then the movie started. We couldn’t take any photos during the viewing, so you’ll just have to go watch it on Disney+ on January 22nd. I’ll probably be watching it again.

Leslie Iwerks!

Once it finished (and we wiped a few tears from our eyes), we got to hear Iwerks speak on her experience with the documentary. What’s neat is that the whole movie is put together from archival footage of Disneyland’s construction. It takes you from the beginning of them breaking ground and shows the construction of popular attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight and the Jungle Cruise. Even Sleeping Beauty Castle got a highlight!

The Jungle Cruise

Most of this archival footage has never been used, and most didn’t have sound. Iwerks and her team worked with a company to add time-period-accurate sound effects to bring the footage to life. There were also a few soundbites that they found that give you a real idea of what was happening on the grounds of Disneyland. There aren’t any sit-down interviews happening during the film, but there are some voice-over interviews with some Disney names you might not hear too often. Afterwards, we had the chance to meet Iwerks and ask her some questions.

Quincy and Leslie Iwerks!

We also had to take a classic photo together. What a Disney legend!

She’s a legend!

Make sure you catch Disneyland Handcrafted on Disney+ on January 22nd for a great film that was made with so much love and attention to detail. Keep following AllEars for more!
