I put $30 Walmart shoes head-to-head with my favorite Brooks — and I wasn’t ready for the result.

I went into this comparison fully expecting there to be a clear winner especially after trying countless other pairs of shoes to stand the test of a Disney World vacation. But after spending real time walking in both pairs, the differences weren’t nearly as obvious as the price tags would suggest. When comfort, fit, and all-day wear matter most, this matchup turned out to be far more interesting than I ever anticipated!
When it comes to Disney World vacations (or any long-haul walking adventure), we take shoes very seriously. Over the years, I’ve tried countless pairs claiming “all-day comfort,” but very few have earned a permanent spot in my rotation. The Brooks Women’s Ghost 17 Neutral Running Shoe has long been near the top of that list due to its being soft, supportive, and reliable for hours of walking.

But when I slipped on a pair of Walmart’s Avia Women’s Athletic Jumbo Lite Runner Sneakers (retailing around $30!!) I honestly had to pause. How could a budget shoe even come close to a trusted $100+ favorite?

Here’s what I found.
Comfort & Fit: A Surprisingly Close Call
Let’s start with the good stuff: both shoes are genuinely comfortable. The Brooks Ghost 17s deliver that classic balance of cushion and responsiveness you expect from a higher-end running shoe.

They hug your foot nicely, support your arches, and make miles feel far less tiring than you’d expect. They’re breathable, lightweight, and designed to keep your feet happy whether you’re hitting trails, treadmills, or theme park pavement.
Then there are the Avia Jumbo Lite Runners. I’ll admit, I was skeptical — cheap shoes often feel cheap in feel and performance. But these? They surprised me. The cushioning was bouncy (some might even say more cushioned than they expected), and they formed to my foot quickly.

On my Disney World test day, they kept me comfortable from rope drop to fireworks. The fit around my midsection felt snug without squeezing, and even by day’s end, there were no complaints from my feet about fatigue or discomfort.
Where They Differ
So what sets them apart? Honestly, the difference isn’t in comfort — it’s in weight, feel, and durability expectations. The Brooks feel like they’re crafted with performance in mind: precision, flexibility, and long-term support. They feel like a shoe built for regular runs, long walks, and the gradual improvement of your stride.

The Avias feel like a very comfy, casual athletic shoe built for everyday wear — and for that, they’re phenomenal! They’re not flimsy by any means, but you can feel they’re not as engineered for performance longevity as the Brooks.
The Real Tipping Point: Price
Let’s be honest, the true game-changer here isn’t comfort or fit — it’s the price. When a $30 pair of sneakers can keep up with a $100+ running shoe in terms of everyday comfort, that’s worth shouting from the rooftops. Especially if you’re someone who hates breaking in expensive shoes or you’re packing for a trip and don’t want to stress about scuffs, spills, or wear and tear.

If you’re buying shoes specifically for Disney World, travel, or casual daily walking, I’d say this loud and clear: the Avia Jumbo Lite Runners are absolutely worth grabbing first, especially at that price point! They’re comfortable, easy to wear straight out of the box, and will save your feet without draining your wallet.
Are the Brooks Ghost 17s slightly more supportive and built for performance longevity? Yes. But for everyday walking comfort, especially in a travel or vacation setting, that extra cost isn’t always necessary… and that’s why I’m calling this a tie with a clear winner in value.
In the meantime, we’ll be keeping an eye out for the latest Disney deals, so make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for more!
