Over the years, we’ve made quite a few mistakes at Disneyland Resort. But some lessons, you’ve got to learn the hard way!

When you’re overtired, and your feet are blistered, and you’re tapped out on day four of your trip, you look back with fresh eyes and realize that you could’ve planned things differently. That’s why we’re here to share some expertise with you!
We recently reached out to our followers on Facebook and asked them about the mistakes they’ve seen other people make at Disneyland Resort. They had some surprising things to say!
Let’s see some of the most interesting responses!
Overpacking for the Parks
One of the comments that was most interacted with on the post was the answer: “Packing for the park like it’s a three-week trek into the wilderness.” And you guys? We see this one ALL the time!

So many people come to the parks loaded down with gigantic backpacks and every inch of their strollers covered in gadgets and gizmos. If it works for you, go ahead! But many times, we’ve found ourselves overpacking just to carry around several items that don’t get used. Those giant backpacks? They’re probably going to cause you some back pain by the end of your trip.
The One Thing I Pack for Disneyland That I Don’t Pack for Disney World
Not Taking Time to Relax or Slow Down
As is the case with any theme park vacation, it’s important to take the time to relax and slow down during your trip. If you plan full park days every day of your time in Disneyland Resort, you’ll probably be completely exhausted by the end.

Even if you can’t take a full day off from the parks, it might be a good idea to take a midday break at your hotel. One of our followers said, “All the fun isn’t in the parks. Did you look at the great pool at your hotel? Maybe the kids would like it.” Don’t forget that there’s lots of fun to be had in relaxation, too!

Waiting in Long Lines for Quick Service Food
Did you know that Disneyland Resort offers Mobile Ordering at many of its quick service restaurants? Make sure to download the Disneyland app before your trip and link your tickets; then you can digitally order your food and avoid some long waits.

Some of our readers noted that lines for quick service food ordering are often long at Disneyland and California Adventure, so using Mobile Order is a great hack to save time.

Skipping Dining Reservations
Speaking of dining, table service dining can be very popular and fill up QUICKLY at Disneyland Resort. They don’t have nearly as many sit-down restaurants as Disney World, and with fewer options, those that do exist run out of reservations fast. This is why it’s important to make those dining reservations in advance!

You can make dining reservations 60 days in advance of your visit, and if there’s somewhere you really want to visit, it’s important to mark that date down on your calendar!

Expecting “Perfection”
Of course, no vacation is going to be 100% perfect, so you need to set expectations properly when going to Disneyland Resort as well. One reader answered us on Facebook by saying, “Not taking the time to *SLOW DOWN* and *enjoy* things. Days at the parks are not always going to be ‘perfect.’ Rides break down. Weather gets yucky.”

Everything they said is true! Sometimes things will go wrong on your vacation, and you can’t do a single thing about it. So when you’re planning your trip, make your schedule flexible and plan with a list of priorities instead of a minute-by-minute itinerary.

Skipping Part or All of It Because You’ve Been to Disney World
Finally, one thing that many of our followers agreed on is that you shouldn’t skip part or all of Disneyland Resort just because you’ve been to Disney World! Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park are different enough from each other to enjoy both, and even rides that have the same names or concepts on both coasts can have differences that alter the experience.

Disneyland Resort and Disney World have two completely different vibes as well. If you’re tired of the hustle and bustle of the Disney World parks, the laid-back atmosphere of the West Coast resort might be just right for you. Plus, here, you get the nostalgia of Walt’s original park and all the history that comes with that.

If you’re going to Disneyland Resort, avoiding these mistakes will help you plan a magical trip! Set your expectations properly, and you can have a great time.
