Traveling to Disney World is about to get easier thanks to a new upgrade at Orlando’s “other” airport! Wait…there’s ANOTHER airport near Disney World? YES (and we’re big fans!).

Most people traveling to “The Most Magical Place on Earth” typically arrive at the Orlando International Airport. It’s close to the parks, and it’s a big airport. However, things are about to change thanks to some NEW upgrades on the way.
After years of planning, a major project is advancing. The Orlando Sanford International Airport connector toll road project is moving forward, according to FOX 35 Orlando. The Central Florida Expressway Authority had a vote on October 16th to “approve construction of a two-mile connector linking State Road 417 to Orlando Sanford International Airport.”

By design, the road will provide the “shortest and most direct route to the airport.” The road will reduce congestion on East Lake Mary Boulevard by nearly 50%. Version 2A is “a route they say best balances community concerns with transportation needs.”

The project itself is PRICEY, estimated at a cost of $200 million. It’s said that it could eventually bring in $50 million annually in toll revenue. There has been no word on the toll pricing or the funding sources for the $200 million cost.

There has also been no word on a construction start date or a completion timeline just yet. FOX 35 stated, “The toll road proposal has been under review for more than a year, drawing both support and opposition from residents.” They also stated, “It’s unclear how the project will affect property values or whether further legal or environmental challenges might delay progress.”

This could impact travel to Disney World in the future, as the toll road will make getting to the property easier, giving people another airport option. Hopefully, the construction period doesn’t take too long!
