Sometimes tragedy strikes at a theme park.

Maybe your favorite ride has broken down, or it’s pouring down rain for the entire day. Or, one of the worst things tha can happen — you lose something valuable in the park or on a ride. This recently happened to a celebrity, and we’re sharing with you what you should do if it ever happens to you!
Matthew McConaughey recently went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and recounted the story of losing his phone on a roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas on his daughter’s birthday. This is why they tell you to secure loose items, people. It happens!

Thankfully, even though the phone landed in a swamp underneath the ride, the Six Flags staff were able to find his phone, and it STILL WORKED!

So, what should you do if you lose something in a theme park? Well, if you know where you’ve lost the item, let a Team Member or Cast Member at the ride know what you’ve lost, and they’ll walk you through the next steps.

If you have no idea where the item is, stop by Guest Services to fill out a report of the lost item. At Disney parks, you’ll fill out a digital lost and found report, and if they find the item, they’ll contact you about it, even if it’s weeks later. In fact, we’ve had our lost items SHIPPED HOME after our vacations. So don’t lose hope if you’ve lost something.

The bottom line is to find a Team Member or Cast Member as soon as possible and follow their instructions on what to do. If your item has fallen somewhere out of reach, but you can see it, they may be able to get it safely for you. DO NOT attempt to reach it on your own — Cast Members have special tools that can do the job.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll get your item back, which is why it’s super important to keep your items safe in a locker or a zipped pocket and to secure all loose items before you ride (like hats, glasses, and ears).
