Did you know that Disney has a SECRET society hiding in plain sight around the Disney parks? If you’ve been to the Magic Kingdom, chances are you’ve passed by some hidden logos and secret details without even noticing!

Now, what if we told you that Disney is working on a movie as mysterious as the secret society it’s based on? The details may be scarce, but that only adds to the intrigue, don’t you think?
What does SEA stand for?
Before we dive in, let us introduce you to the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (“SEA” for short). SEA is a top-secret fictional club that the average theme park goer probably doesn’t know about, yet the club has ties to several attractions (and characters) in Disney parks around the world. It’s a story within the story of the Disney parks — how meta!

The Society of Explorers and Adventurers is a group of researchers, scientists, explorers, and other adventurers that are dedicated to exploring the world. Think of someone like Amelia Earhart — but as a Disney character!
The Movie
With such a colorful cast of characters and a unique backstory, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers were practically BEGGING for their own movie!

According to Deadline, Disney is working on a Society of Explorers and Adventurers movie! The movie will be based on the secret fictional organization.
What we know
Just like the organization itself, Disney is keeping the details of its upcoming film under wraps (for now). We do know that the movie is set to be written by Qui Nguyen, the filmmaker behind Strange World.

Deadline also revealed that Maximum Effort (a film production company founded by Ryan Reynolds and George Dewey) will produce the film.

Early reports indicate that the movie will be a live-action theatrical feature with the potential to spin into a franchise. Deadline said the movie will be “an adventure tying together the lore behind several of Disney’s most famous theme park attractions, with a modern twist.”

Not only that, but it sounds like the movie will take place in the present day! Deadline shared that audiences could expect to see “a new supernatural element.” We might even see some new characters!

That’s all we know so far, so who knows where this new film could take us! If you’re looking forward to Disney’s SEA movie, you can watch Disney’s newest Haunted Mansion film adaptation starting July 28th. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more!
