NEWS: Orlando Airport Has Most Firearm Confiscations of Any Florida Airport

For those traveling to Disney World and Universal Orlando, the Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a popular destination.

Orlando International Airport

This airport sees millions of passengers every year and it shows, with new technology and expansions planned to come here in the near future! However, there’s one milestone the airport has hit that TSA is calling “a dangerous trend.”

According to Click Orlando, Florida airports are continuing to rank in the top 10 for where passengers are most often stopped at security checkpoints with a gun. Year-to-date, 195 guns have been found in Florida airports, and of those, 40 were recovered at MCO.

This means that currently, Orlando International Airport leads Florida airports in this tally. Following behind MCO is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with 36, Tampa International Airport with 26, and Miami International Airport with 19. Last Friday, a man was stopped at a TSA checkpoint in MCO carrying a Taurus 9mm loaded with 12 rounds, before he was arrested by police.

Click Orlando notes that “Due to it being a violation of federal law, passengers will face a civil penalty after being stopped at a security checkpoint with a gun on them, one that the TSA said can cost more than $13,900 to deal with and will be imposed regardless of what agency makes the arrest.” Those caught with guns at security checkpoints will also lose TSA PreCheck privileges.
