COVID-19 continues to remain a pressing subject for many people as the delta variant continues to spread and COVID cases in Florida are rising.

Recently, we’ve seen as CDC recommendations have changed and mask requirements have returned in the Disney Parks and Resorts, and now the growing COVID-19 spread may also be impacting Disney’s success in the box office.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the National Research Group recently administered a survey that showed that the overall comfort level regarding moviegoing confidence has decreased from 81% to 72% over the past three weeks.

The survey indicates that mothers seem to be the most concerned about going to the movies, as their comfort level went down from 75% to 59%. However, moviegoers under the age of 18 do still remain the most comfortable.

Though the survey suggests that theaters would be seeing a decrease in movie-goers, Disney’s Jungle Cruise movie did see success when it was released on July 30th. The film premiered making $35 million domestically and $27.6 million internationally.

Despite the relative success of Jungle Cruise, the future of moviegoing remains to be seen. Overall ticket sales have been on the rise through spring and summer, but the sharp decline in the moviegoing comfort level (81% to 72%) was reportedly the fastest loss in confidence since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

As both Disney and the overall film industry continue to push ahead (amid battles from actors and actresses), we’ll continue to keep an eye out for more information on what the future holds for movie theaters.
