Picture it: Anaheim, 2001. The paint was still drying on the newest Disney Park, but it wasn’t wet paint we were smelling, and this rodent was no Mickey Mouse.

The million tiny steps (and billions of dollars) it took to bring this park back from the brink of turning into the world’s most embarrassing Disney Store was more of a California Adventure than anyone could have dreamed up.

I have only been to Disneyland one time when I was a kid. Way back in 1993 when my grandparents were living in California and we went to visit them. I had already been to Disney World before then and Disneyland seemed really small in comparison. They seem to have added a lot in the decades and years since then. Maybe someday I will go back and see for myself.
