The holidays are an incredibly popular time to travel.

Although there are various health and safety guidelines in place across the country, it seems that this year’s holiday season is still a busy one. Fox 35 Orlando has detailed that the Orlando International Airport will see a surge of 775,000 travelers from mid-December to early January, despite the CDC’s urges to “postpone travel and stay home.”
As passengers travel throughout the holiday season, the busiest day for Christmas departures will most likely be on December 27th, with New Year’s travel expected to hit a peak on January 3rd. The airport crowds on Christmas Eve were smaller in the morning in comparison to previous years.

The Orlando International Airport and airlines will still be doing everything they can to promote health and safety for travelers by following CDC guidelines, increasing sanitation efforts, using crowd flow technology, and more.

However, the travel industry is still experiencing major losses. Travel is still down about 50 percent in comparison to the 2019 holiday season, according to CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Phil Brown.

“I don’t know that we’ll make up for the losses,” Brown shared. “I mean, we’re in a pretty deep hole. Our goal is to gradually bring back the traffic, get back up, and continue to grow and try to reach where we were and then hopefully grow some more.”

Despite the significant drop in Florida’s tourism this year, it seems to slowly be on the rise. We’ll continue to provide updates about travel, especially crowd levels at Disney World, so be sure to check back with us!
