Candid Photography or Candids is the art of taking photos of people when they have no idea that you’re doing it.  This can be very challenging as most photos of people at Walt Disney World are posed in front of attractions and other things, with characters and even with cast members. Disney’s PhotoPass makes it even easier for singles, couples, families and larger groups to have their photos taken in front of interesting and wonderful backgrounds. Again, those are all posed photos.

I enjoy getting candids of my family at Walt Disney World. It is not easy as they are very aware of me when I have my camera. Here are a few tricks I learned over the years.

When people are distracted is a good time. During my grandson’s first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom, his parents were so focused on him, the flash on my camera going off was ignored.

A great place to get candids is at restaurants. I have a whole collection of my daughters eating (which they love, of course). Today, there are other things which distract people at the table. My daughter and son-in-law were checking out the My Disney Experience app while at the Columbia Harbour House restaurant in the Magic Kingdom when CLICK.

Another good place to get candids are all the shops and shopping experiences around the whole resort. Here my other daughter is trying to decide which tea to get from the Tea Caddy Shop in Epcot’s United Kingdom pavilion.

While they may not be the most memorable photos I take for my family on our visits to Walt Disney World, many of them are favorites of mine.
