3 Unspoken Rules for the First 10 Minutes of a Flight

I have traveled internationally my entire life!

I have traveled through quite a few airports!

I’ve been to Hong Kong, Tokyo, and more. That being said, I can also hack an airplane ride within the first 10 minutes of sitting in my seat. Now, I’m sharing my best rules with you to set yourself up for success!

Getting comfortable on a long flight takes skill, practice, and expertise. When it comes to flights, I have found a way to set myself up for success, whether the flight is 1 hour or 18 hours. When I first get on board any flight, the first thing I do is start to unpack.

Get settled!

I like to put anything I will want or need in a reachable area. That can be on top of my personal item, in the seat back, or even next to my personal item. I like to do this if I’m sitting directly next to someone I don’t know. It makes it easier to maneuver during the flight without disturbing the people around me.

Hop on board!

I like to grab things like my headphones, my blanket, a foot sling to elevate my feet, my book, and a video game if I bring one. After that, I like to text my family and friends that I’ve made it on my flight. It gives them peace of mind, and it’s one less thing to worry about while I travel. Also, just shouting out my mom here, who is the main person I need to text. And also Emma. I have to text Emma, too. (This also applies to landing.)

Let’s hop on a flight!

Next, I like to make a list of the seatback entertainment options I might like to watch. I scroll through the TV shows, movies, and podcasts that are included in the in-flight entertainment and favorite the ones I’m interested in. During the flight, I also love to watch movies, specifically thrillers and horror! Particularly ones that were intriguing to me but not enough to get myself to the theatre, like Barbarian, Speak No Evil, The Blackening, and Bodies Bodies Bodies. On looooong flights, I’ll watch TV Shows like reality TV or shows that I am kind of interested in but not enough to make time at home.

Time to fly

An example of this is The Pitt, which I ended up loving. I also might watch Oscar nominations that I never saw, like Anatomy of a Fall. If I’m feeling sick, I watch Coco every time. (Something about a comfort watch!) While I do love a comfort movie, there’s something really nice about watching movies I’ve never seen on an airplane. They just feel even better!
