I Sleep With My Eyes Open and This $10 Amazon Item Is a Game Changer

Confession: I sleep with my eyes open. There’s no nonchalant way to say that, so I just wanted to get that out there.

Not only are there countless stories of freaking out family members and my spouse, but my eyes often hurt when I wake up, even after eight hours of sleep. Yeah, when we’re supposed to be the most rested. If only I had known about this $10 item from Amazon earlier!

It all started with Amazon Prime Day back in July. I’m going to Europe for the first time (hello, nine-hour overnight flight!), so I had a list of essentials I needed ready to go when the sales dropped. I was browsing for the perfect eye mask set and couldn’t say no to the LKY DIGITAL Sleep Mask 3-Pack when I saw the price.

While this purchase was meant for sleeping on a plane, when the package arrived, I couldn’t wait to try it out. First off, the mask’s contoured design is lightweight and cushy, with a soft fabric that doesn’t stick to your eyelids or feel suffocating. It doesn’t press directly against your eyes, so you don’t have that annoying sleepy-mask-pushing‑your‑eyelids‑back feeling. Instead, it gently blocks out light while letting your lashes sit comfortably.

Putting it on feels like a blackout curtain for your eyes. It’s the kind of dark you only ever get when you’re somewhere remote, like camping in the middle of nowhere, or, better yet, when your eyelids actually cooperate.

Now this helped me achieve more restful sleep, but let’s face it — it won’t cure insomnia or fix your sleep cycles. But for about three bucks a piece? It’s a nice little upgrade. There are several multi-colored sets to choose from, and there’s an easy-to-adjust strap on the back.
