Sometimes visiting Disney World during the summer feels like you accidentally booked a trip to the surface of the sun, and even I’m not to proud to admit I’ve fallen victim to its intense humidity again and again!
We’re constantly offering up our best tips, tricks, and products that tag along with us in the parks when visiting Disney World during the summer. Look there’s no way to sugar coat this, but sometimes that heat is just intense and there’s only so much you can do — but luckily, I’m at Disney World almost every day and there’s a few strategies I use to help me stay in the parks as long as I need without feeling like I’m going to melt straight into the ground.
Summer at Disney World can be brutal and take a bigger toll on your body quicker than you imagine. While I’m fairly used to the Florida weather, I see people visiting from around the world every day who’ve underestimated its power.
Myranda and free water cup
There are a few rules I strive to live by while visiting Disney World in the summer, and I’m letting you in on my secrets before your next trip.
Start Strong
You’ve paid a TON to be at Disney World and I personally know what It feels like to want to squeeze every penny’s value out of your day’s ticket, but if you’re not feeling it from the jump, this is your time to take a pause.
I fear poor choices were made already
Pushing yourself against the harshest of elements is not an ideal way to start, let alone tough out your day. Walking around Disney World on a good weather day is exhausing enough already, if your body’s throwing up warning signs already, it’s totally ok to take a step back and listen.
Be Preparrrrred!
I hope you read that imagining me doing my best Scar impression. Seriously though, there’s a ton of prep work to do on the forefront that if planned ahead, could alleviate those headaches (figureative and literally) later and keep from sending your wallet on a crash diet right before your eyes.
Packing ALL the things
Research the upcoming weather and continue to check it even while you’re on vacation, buy things ahead of your visit so you’re saving time and money, come to the parks with what you need so you’re not having to scavenge for it all later. And you’ll literally save yourself from disaster while avoiding mixing in new high stress in an already elevated situation.
Hydrate, Hydrate, HYDRATE!
I might sound like a broken record but you’re surrounded by free water at Disney World!
Rapunzel Owala Water Bottle
You’ll find cups of cold water usually at the ready around quick service restaurants, and water fountains (see this is where it comes in handy prepping before your trip with a reusable water bottle)!
Free Water
But if you’re scratching you head saying to yourself, “Myr, you don’t drink water. Isn’t that kind of like the pot calling the kettle?” Fair — but, in my defense there’s also drinks like Powerade, Sprite, and lemonade that will replenish my liquid intake without upsetting my tummy in the process.
Breaks > Emergencies
It’s true — frequent breaks can make the difference. When the heat and humidity get a bit too much to bear, I duck into the nearest store to browse for a bit, pop into a show for a seat and laugh (or a good cry if you’re anything like me watching Beauty and the Beast), order a snack to eat inside a shaded area or restaurant, and finally, look for the less busy buildings like Star Wars Launch Bay, Walt Disney Presents, and lounges that can provide some much appreciated AC and at minimum a floor to sit on.
Star Wars Launch Bay is a hidden gem!
There’s also no unspoken time limit to these breaks I’m alluding to, so unless you’re getting up from seeing a show and relocating, feel free to take all the time you need until you fell refreshed enough to carry on.
Do Less By Doing More
This might sounds backwards but, let me explain. If you’re a fan of park hopping and plan to hop around during your day, you could be spending quite a bit of time between parks using Disney World transportation.
Disney Skyliner at International Gateway Station at EPCOT
By making it your mission to only do a few things in each park before traveling to the next, it’s a great way to split up your full day to “see it all” without feeling like you’re compromising on the value of what you’ve spent to visit.
Switch Up Your Disney World Routine
There’s nothing wrong with getting an early start to the day, feeling accomplished, and then high-tailing it back to the room for a while.
Fuentes del Morro pool
Consider splitting up your day with other options like a late start to the evening when the sun isn’t at its brightest, go back to the room for a nap, go hotel hopping to see new things, or spend some time taking in the recreations and activities around the hotel like pools, fitness centers, spas, and more!
Time for a pool bar visit!
Who knows — the memories you make during an unexpected detour might turn out to be some of your most cherished down the road!
No one else knows your body (and your limits) like you do. The absolute best advice I’m here to offer you is constantly be taking survey of your physical and emotional state while visiting during the summer. There’s no “one right strategy” that will fit everyone, so as long as you’re healthy, happy, and as comfortable as possible, you’ve got your best chance at beating the heat at Disney World!
