New Lawsuit Blames Disney for ‘Dangerous Conditions’ of Water Park Slide

The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits, and a new one against the company has been filed.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach

This lawsuit concerns issues with one of the slides at Blizzard Beach, located at Disney World.

According to WKMG, Eugene Strickland went to Blizzard Beach in 2021 and is suing for damages that resulted from going on the Downhill Double Dipper slide.

Listed on the ride’s safety information is a rule stating that guests must weigh under 300 pounds to ride safely, and at the time of riding, the guest exceeded this limit.

The lawsuit says, “while sliding down…Strickland became momentarily airborne as a result of the ride’s exhilarating speeds and design, resulting in Disney’s inner tube forcibly, suddenly, and unexpectedly dislodging from underneath Strickland’s body.”

Strickland landed onto the hard plastic surface of the slide, outside of the inner tube, and has “permanent catastrophic injuries.”

The lawsuit alleges that Disney was negligent in failing to maintain safe premises. They say it is Disney’s responsibility to fix the “dangerous conditions” of the slide.

Strickland is asking for over $50,000 in damages.

Again, Disney is accustomed to being sued and has faced lawsuits from guests, former employees, and even its own Annual Passholders. We’re unsure how this case will proceed, but we’ll continue to monitor it to see how it develops.
