4 Food Mistakes That Scream “This Is My First Disney Cruise”

One of the best things about a Disney cruise is the FOOD.

The Disney Treasure!

With buffets, 24/7 room service, and incredibly themed rotational dining, many people plan their entire Disney cruise around what they’re going to eat. And if you’re not careful when planning your dining, you might make some big mistakes!

Not Asking for Something Different

If you’ve been on a Disney cruise, you know that they’re known for their rotational dining offerings at dinnertime, meaning that you visit a different themed restaurant each night. Each of these spots will have a designated menu, but if you’re not feeling the options available, don’t be afraid to ask some questions.

For those picky eaters out there, it’s good to know that you can often ask your server for alternate food options if you don’t like what’s on the menu. We’ve been able to get menu items as simple as chicken tenders in the past, so speak up if you’re curious! You don’t have to go hungry.

Skipping the Specialty Breakfast/Lunch Options

Another thing that’s important to note about your cruise is that you don’t have to eat at the buffet or on the pool deck for every breakfast and lunch meal. Typically, a select few dinner restaurants will offer sit-down breakfast and lunch offerings throughout your cruise.

You can typically find these options listed in the Disney Cruse Line Navigator app, but you’ll want to check the hours — they’re only offered during specific times of the day. It’s a great chance to get something a little more special for breakfast or lunch, no reservations required.

Only Checking Dining Reservation Availability BEFORE Your Cruise

And speaking of reservations — if you’re interested in reserving one of those specialty dining experiences (like Enchante or Palo) onboard your cruise, there may be last-minute availability. The option to reserve these extra-cost meals opens up before your cruise, but you can also check for availability once you get on the ship.

On the day you board the ship, find the dining reservations team. They’ll be able to check for last-minute reservations and get you on the waitlist if none are available. Also, they can help you with swapping your rotational dining time for dinner if need be.

Missing Out on Mickey Bars

Did you know that you can get Mickey bars delivered to your Disney Cruise Line stateroom? They’re often not listed on the room service menu, but they can be requested alongside the other options!

Remember that 24/7 room service is included with your stay onboard a Disney cruise — just don’t forget to tip!

Scheduling Your Specialty Meals at the Wrong Times

If you’re hoping to enjoy a specialty restaurant during your cruise, make sure you schedule that dining reservation for a time that works for you.

For example, if you want to make sure that you don’t miss any of the rotational dining options, it may be a better idea to schedule a lunch or to plan a dinner that doesn’t conflict with the other offerings onboard.

Getting Dehydrated

And last but not least, we’ve got to remind you to STAY HYDRATED. There are so many beverages available on a Disney cruise, but even with all those options, it’s easy to forget to drink water. Bring a refillable bottle with you on the boat and make sure to fill it up a few times a day to stay hydrated.

Spending extra time in the sun can make it a lot easier to get dehydrated as well, so continue that dedication to drinking water even when you’re in port.

The Wish

Dining can be the best part of your cruise if you prioritize the right things! Make sure to do your food research beforehand.
