This New Land in Epic Universe Is Causing Controversy — Here’s Why

Universal is known for transporting you right into your favorite movies. With the opening of Epic Universe just around the corner, Universal is ready to take you into more of your favorite worlds, like How to Train Your Dragon and the highly-anticipated Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic.

Now, here’s what’s interesting. The Ministry of Magic combines two different eras and movies, and Harry Potter fans aren’t too sure about this combination.

Prepare to be transported to The Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series and the world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The whole land is set in the Wizarding World of 1920s Paris.

Let’s go in!

When you first enter through the portal, there is a Time-Turner on top that helps you transport to the ’20s era. While walking around, you’ll be immersed in this 1920s Paris world, but what happens on the ride?

Ride Enterance

SPOILERS AHEAD!

In Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, the only ride in this land, you’ll enter through the Paris subway system, use Floo Powder, and then be transported into the iconic Ministry of Magic from Harry Potter. Wait — how did we get from 1920s Paris to definitely not-1920s England?

Floo Powder

Uhm, we’re not really sure.

Even on the ride, you’ll see Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but then later see beasts from the Department of Magical Creatures, including creatures right from the Fantastic Beasts movies.

Inside the Ministry

At one point during the ride, Dolores Umbridge breaks a Time-Turner while attempting to turn back time, sending you into a “time paradox” where time doesn’t really matter.

More details

After she’s captured, you’ll exit the ride and return to Paris. Whew, what a journey.

We’re blown away by the details!

We’re not really sure about these two time periods colliding, but we do know that we had a lot of fun on the attraction and exploring the area. Being in France, there are French pasteries and Parisian accents around the land, but we knew the land wouldn’t be complete without being able to see the original Harry Potter trio.

So, what do you think? Does the timeline discrepancy bother you? We’ve seen some chatter online about the somewhat confusing timeline situation, but we’ll be sure to keep our eyes and ears open for more when the park opens in May. Let us know your thoughts in the meantime!

The more we explore Epic Universe and the more details we discover, the more we may learn about the two worlds combining. For now, keep following AllEars for everything we know about Epic Universe. Trust us; you’ll want to get tickets now!

  1. Time Turners in the portal and metro floo make the two different time OK. And there is no reason that types of beasts that were about in the 1920’s can’t still be there in the 1990’s. Stop trying to make a big deal out of nothing.
