Do you have a cruise or vacation planned to visit the Caribbean islands, perhaps even Jamaica?

For example, Jamaica is a popular cruise and island destination, although the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 3 travel warning for the island. However, that could be changing soon. According to the Associated Press, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated he has plans to re-evaluate those travel warnings.

Earlier this week, Rubio said the State Department would re-evaluate travel warnings forJamaica and other countries to make sure the warnings matched what’s really happening in those countries on the ground. Rubio recently toured the Caribbean and heard complaints from Jamaican officials about the Level 3 warning for their country which advises Americans “to reconsider” visiting it because of high crime rates.

Although Rubio did not promise that the Jamaica travel warning would be lowered, he did say that the country’s efforts in reducing crime could play a factor in that happening.

He said, “We pledged (that) we’re going to go back and reevaluate the travel advisories as they currently stand to ensure that they do reflect the reality of the new numbers and what the numbers show.”

Here are the different levels of travel advisories and what each means. To see which countries have advisories and get more details, you can visit the U.S. Department of State website.

Other countries are also under travel warnings, including The Bahamas at Level 2 due to high crime and Turks and Caicos at Level 2 due to crime. Rubio did not mention any other countries’ advisories at this time.
