Disney recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the Central Shops at Disney World!

The Central Shops feature more than 400 skilled artisans, machinists, and craftspeople who work to build, repair, and restore Disney magic. The Cast Members at the Central Shops handle various tasks, from repairing ride vehicles to crafting awards. Let’s take a peek inside!
The Central Shops are located in a 300,000-square-foot space. The Cast Members here keep the parks running smoothly. Ride vehicles and attraction elements from all over Disney World come here to be repaired, refreshed, and checked. You never know what you might see in the Central Shops! You might spot a ride vehicle from Space Mountain getting its check-up.

Or, you might spot a teacup from the Mad Tea Party being inspected. Ride vehicles at Disney World come to the Central Shops for regular maintenance and are on a schedule to make sure they are always in tip-top shape. The teacups come in on a schedule to be checked, while roller coaster vehicles are on a “meter-based” program, where they come in for inspection and maintenance after they have run the track a set number of times.

Ride vehicles are the only attraction elements that come to the Central Shops, though. All sorts of elements, including the dolls from “it’s a small world,” might make their way here for some refreshing.

The Central Shops even take care of the animals from the Jungle Cruise. Disney shared a photo of one of the baby elephants ready to rejoin the attraction after being refreshed at the Central Shops. Cast Members insert his tiny trunk hairs by hand, one at a time.

But ride vehicles and attraction elements aren’t the only things repaired at the Central Shops. Costume elements like Jessie’s hat also make their way here to get touched up. The Central Shops feature advanced computer technology, but there is also timeless hand-crafted artistry at work here.

The Central Shops are even responsible for making the nametags worn by Cast Members. They also create awards, signage, and more. They can custom-make specific parts like bolts and even use X-ray machines to check for rotting wood or deploy drones to inspect hard-to-reach places.

It seems that there isn’t much the Central Shops can’t do! The Central Shops are focused on ensuring Disney World attractions “remain immersive, safe, and magical for millions of guests every year.” The Cast Members who work here are passionate about what they do, and they said that they love taking their own families and seeing guests enjoy the result of their work.
