NEWS: Over 460 Flight Delays Reported at Orlando Airport Due to Major Storm

If you’re flying in or out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) today, we’ve got some bad news.

MCO Airport

Storms have been moving across Florida all day, and now that they’ve reached Central Florida, they’re resulting in pretty big delays at the airport for departing flights. In fact, a ground stop was issued for all flights until the severity of the storms could be determined.

As of 4:00 PM, a ground stop had been issued at MCO Airport through 4:15 PM due to the storms rolling into Central Florida, according to Fox 35. There was a medium probability of the ground stop being extended depending on the severity of the storms.

A total of 463 flights have been delayed today, plus six cancelations, according to data from FlightAware. The majority of these delays come from Southwest (146 delays), JetBlue (48 delays), Delta (40 delays), and Frontier (42 delays). Out of the canceled flights, three of those were heading to Orlando Airport and three were departing.

If a ground stop continues from the storms, it’s possible we could see the number of delays and cancelations rise. If you’re expecting to fly in or out of the airport later on this evening, be prepared for plans to change or to spend more time at the airport than originally planned.

UPDATE: Following the storm, over 200 flights are delayed on March 31st as of 9 AM. Be sure to check with your airline if you’re traveling today for the latest status of your flight.
