It is hard to believe, but MagicBands have been around for over a decade!
These handy-helpers have seen many changes since they debuted in 2013. Their shape has changed, there are tons of designs, and there are even MagicBands that light up and interact with some aspects around Disney World! While Disney no longer offers free MagicBands to their resort guests, MagicBands are still super popular and considered a staple of a Disney World vacation.
MagicBands can do so much to help make your Disney World vacation easier. They can act as your park ticket, room key, and credit card (if you are staying at a Disney World resort). They are even waterproof, so that you can wear them at Disney World’s water parks!
While you can use and wear a MagicBand regardless of whether you are a guest of a Disney World hotel, hotel guests can get the most use out of their bands, specifically because they are able to charge to their room! Unfortunately, there is no way to connect a credit card for non-resort guests to make your MagicBand like ApplePay.
Your MagicBand will be connected to the card that you have on file under your resort reservation; upon check-in, you will either add or you can confirm your PIN. Disney has you set a four-digit PIN, just like a credit card, in the event that your MagicBand gets into the wrong hands.
You can select which guests on your reservation you would like to have charging privileges and then share your PIN with them. There is no age limit on charging privileges, so you can share it with your older children, like teenagers, to grant them purchasing power. This can be a great way not to have to worry about passing around a credit card for the potential of it getting lost. Since you have the power to grant multiple guests on your reservation the power to charge, that means that you and your party can divide and conquer when it comes to purchasing souvenirs or food.
This is especially helpful during EPCOT festivals, as multiple members of your party can purchase food at different food booths at the same time to avoid having to wait in multiple lines all together as a group. This is also helpful if your group has to separate. If half the group wants to ride a ride or visit a different park, you do not have to worry about only one part of your group having a credit card. Instead, they will be able to room charge via their MagicBand!
The next time you check in to your Disney World resort, make sure to check your My Disney Experience app to grant charging privileges to your party.

Magic band charging is great and convenient – each guest on the reservation can set their own pin to use the credit card on file, and then the charges can be tracked by person making on the room folio!
