If you have, you’re certainly not alone. Per multiple reports, Moana 2 made box office history by having the highest global box office debut for an animated movie ever, the biggest Thanksgiving movie release ever, and the highest-grossing five-day release of all time. Sheesh. People can’t get enough of Moana 2, so, naturally, we’re all wondering when the new movie will be available to stream in homes!

Moana 2 is going strong in theaters and is only entering its second weekend of release, but we’re looking forward to watching it over and over again on Disney+ when it’s streaming. Although Disney has yet to announce when that will happen, there are some hints that have led us to speculate a date.

As of this writing, Moana 2 has made over $380 million and it should still have some solid legs in the box office. Because of this, Disney will be in no rush to pull the movie from theaters nor cut into any potential profit.

If a movie is a disaster at the box office, movie studios are quicker to rush the film onto a streaming platform and try to maximize viewership. Moana 2 clearly isn’t having this problem.

Therefore, you should expect to wait a while to see this film on Disney+. It appears to be having an all-time run as a wide-release movie, and so Disney will likely milk the film in theaters as long as it can.

Talking specifics, let’s look at trends. Disney tends to give their theatrical films a digital release somewhere between 89 and 100+ days based on box office success. Movies like Strange World, which was a box office flop, premiered on the platform much earlier at only 30 days after theatrical release, but Inside Out 2, which crushed the box office, debuted on Disney+ 103 days after its theatrical release.

Expect Moana 2 to line up closely with Inside Out 2 when it comes to the movie’s digital release.

Moana 2 premiered on November 27th, 2024, so 100 days from the Disney+ release date would be March 7th, 2025 AT THE EARLIEST. Disney’s animated film Wish took 134 days to arrive on Disney+, and going by that comparison, we’d be looking at April 10th, 2025.

It’s fair to assume that Moana 2 will likely wind up on the digital streaming platform sometime between March 7th and April 10th, 2025, but it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see it stretched out even further.

Of course, until any official announcement from Disney, this is all purely speculative. Still, Disney has left breadcrumbs and hints about its streaming trends, so we’re definitely taking an educated guess with these potential March or April release dates.

  1. As a parent or grandparent who is confined to a bed, it would be a nice treat to watch this with grandkids. Stream it while it’s in the theater. Disney can still make it profitable if they charge a small fee to buy or watch it at home. Like pay per view.

  2. I understand that it’s financially smarter to keep the movie in theaters but for those of us who just can’t afford to take the whole family to the movies these days with the cost of drinks and snacks!!!! But we’d still like to see the movie just as much…..I wish it would hit home quicker! Anyway I am truly looking forward to watching it as much as my grandchildren are….lol!!

  3. I think the movie 😁🎥 should be released a little bit earlier than it’s says because it’s an animated movie 🍿🎥 and second because Disney Plus has to be responsible for releasing a movie 🍿🎥 that late
    In Spring time
    It’s a little bit of a stretch
    Thanks 😊👍

  4. I am a great grandma. I bought a subscription to disney+ mainly for the kids. It is frustrating to pay a monthly fee, for a channel, and still have to watch commercials!
