“Need another park. Overcrowding is horrendous!” – Fans Have Some STRONG Opinions About Disney World’s Hotel Announcement

Sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing when it comes to Disney World, right?

I mean the rides are fantastic. We love all the options we have when choosing what to eat. And is there anything better than getting to stay right at Disney World? Well, speaking of staying right on the property, with the recent Disney announcement of yet another new hotel they are building, we’re wondering if hotel after hotel is too much now? So we thought we’d reach out to you and get your takes.

We reached out to our followers on Facebook and Instagram to ask: “What are your thoughts on Disney announcing that they’re building a NEW hotel in Walt Disney World?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!

Prioritize the Parks First

Our reader Ed made a compelling argument for focusing on the big picture. He shared, “I think they should prioritize things that make people want to stay in Disney World hotels before building more. Clean parks that are well maintained, new lands and attractions, and a sense of a premium experience for the premium price they charge.”

Now, Ed isn’t alone in this thought. Many of you in the comments feel that Disney’s energy (and budget) should go toward enhancing the overall park experience rather than adding more hotel rooms. After all, who’s booking a pricey stay if the parks don’t feel magical?

We Need More Attractions, Not Rooms

Building a new hotel is cool and all, but a lot of you were basically asking, “What about the parks?” To that point, Ken shared, “If their idea is to draw additional people to the parks, they need to do major expansions (like Cars, Villains Land and Monsters Inc areas), but probably need to go even further than they currently plan to in order to keep crowd levels manageable. Building a new hotel is nice and all, but it isn’t what really drives people to the parks… I get that it is DVC and they really want to cater to the DVC crowd as it is guaranteed revenue whether they visit Disney or not, but still need to remember the vast majority of their revenue comes from people who are not DVC members.”

Ken’s comment really highlights an important tension. While Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts cater to loyal fans, many of you were expressing your concern that focusing on DVC exclusively means leaving everyday visitors behind.

How About an Entirely New Disney Park?

A lot of you think it’s time Disney pulled a rabbit out of their hat and surprise us with a brand-new park as opposed to a new hotel. For example, Steve shared, “To be honest I think that they need to add a completely new Disney Park that has new ideas and rides.”

The crowds are here!

Kevin agreed and kept it short and sweet with, “Need another park. Overcrowding is horrendous!” Between all the EPCOT festivals, other events that draw huge crowds to the parks, and long lines, a lot of you are clamoring for more space to spread out. A new park would undoubtedly shake things up.

Do We Really Need Another Hotel?

For some of you, this announcement felt like overkill. To that point, Kim didn’t mince words. She said, “There are enough hotels built. That will just make the park even more crowded.”

You can’t just wing it in Disney World

It’s a fair point. More hotel rooms might mean more visitors, which could make Disney World’s already crowded parks feel even more packed.

Affordable Options, Please!

A lot of you shared that the real concern isn’t the addition of a new hotel — it’s whether regular families can afford to stay there. On that note, Shannon shared, “I hope it’s affordable. I also wish they’d do more renovations to the hotels they have and add more expansions to the parks.”

Similarly, Kayla chimed in with, “Love the idea of a new hotel! But I’m not sure Disney needs another DVC resort. Another value and moderate option that has accommodations for families of 5 or 6 would be fantastic.” Tina added, “Not sure how I feel as if it’s a DVC/normal root hotel the room prices are going to be out of my price range, as per The Riviera, The Boardwalk etc.”

  1. WDW doesn’t need another park. The issue, to me, is the there are two parks, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, that hardly have any rides. Add 10-15 good rides to each park, and a few at EPCOT, and the crowd would be better dispersed.

  2. The money for this hotel being a DVC hotel will be paid by the “owners” and not by Disney. Money from this project has a very quick payment as Disney sales the point within a few years. All cost of maintenance is paid by membership and not Disney. The time share owners also pays for the operating cost including transportation to and from the parks. This protect is nothing but a win-win for Disney. It will also provide a steady steam of guest visiting Walt Disney World and spending their money. Now I agree do agree that Disney should reinvest some of the DVC profits to increase capacity including another gate.

  3. For all of you that think the parks are overcrowded but look forward to Disney adding new attractions and lands in the existing parks – what do you think will happen when they stuff Villans and Cars into an already overcrowded MK? Do you think the crowds will just disappear? No. They will stuff even more people into park increasing wait times and charge even more for Lightening Lane.

  4. Couldn’t agree more with the previous comments. I’m over the refurbishments or new construction that gets rid of the theming. Like the new modern look cabins in Ft. Wilderness. It looks less “wilderness” and more modern tiny home. Sticking modern-look Reflections between two wilderness themed resorts is a head scratcher for sure. All these towers they’re building are just eye sores that don’t blend in. I would add the Coronado Springs tower to the other two Lynn mentioned below. I’m not sure if this is just keeping construction costs down, or if the Imagineering dept at Disney has lost their way, or both. Like Carol said, I was a die-hard Disney fan, but I find myself going other places that are more enjoyable, less crowded, and less costly.

  5. Why would any of us pay to stay at another mediocre vanilla hotel (which unfortunately they’ve all become), pay deluxe resort prices where the only recreation available is an over crowded pool or theme parks packed with people? What kind of vacay is that? Wdw was always our go to because it was no hassle and yes, pricey, but there was so much to do and so many perks.

I’ve reluctantly joined many wdw faithful and realizing I can have a great family vacation traveling our country, or Europe or even cruise for less than what we were paying for wdw. So sad.

  6. Reflections looks to be another generic, high-rise hotel with sparse theming. Just like Polynesian Tower and Riviera Resort. Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are prime examples of beautifully themed hotels. We can do without Reflections, as currently envisioned. Not to mention the overcrowding in the parks, restaurants and transportation.

  7. I love Disney and go several times a year but the parks have been way over crowded lately. Perhaps rather than paving over existing attractions they should expand onto to some of the land they own. I think more room equals a better experience. Get the help get the open space for more crowds then build more hotels.
