Disney World is an exciting place — something is always abuzz.

But, not everything is all magic and pixie dust all the time. In fact, some pretty disturbing things happen regularly around the parks and hotels that might change how you look at the Most Magical Place on Earth. If we have to know these upsetting Disney World facts, then so do you.
We go to Disney World every day, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still upset by these facts!
More Than 999 Happy Haunts
Disney World is a place where families have made memories for years, and some of those folks don’t want to forget those memories. So, they decide to lay their loved ones to rest by placing ashes in places around the parks. We even have a former Cast Member on our team who has firsthand experience with this.

It happens most often at the Haunted Mansion, but Cast Members find the remains of loved ones throughout the parks often. It’s against both state laws and Disney rules, so the ashes get quickly cleaned up by workers in the parks. We understand wanting to honor someone’s memory, but please don’t do it like this!
No More Surf’s Up
Did you know there used to be a wave pool at the Polynesian Village Resort?! Disney wanted to compete with Florida’s beaches and thought adding an area for surfing on Seven Seas Lagoon would bring guests in. A wave machine was built and worked for a time, but it didn’t last long.

The waves eroded the manmade shoreline and beach, and the wave machine made it hard for other transportation to happen around the lagoon. These factors, combined with the upkeep and maintenance of the machine, made Disney eventually call it quits on this project.
Code Bad News
Even in Disney World, things can still go a bit awry. Cast Members know this all too well, which is why they use a secret language to communicate when mishaps occur. For example, Code V is used when someone loses their lunch somewhere, while Code A is used for those ashes we talked about.

Code H is one that makes us chuckle. The “H” stand for “honey,” and there’s a very famous Disney character who loves honey. Pooh. Yep, a Code H means that someone pooped. This could mean that someone had an accident on a ride, didn’t make it to the toilet but made it to the stall, or it could even mean that someone threw a dirty diaper into a ride scene.
You’re Being Tracked
You might not be aware, but Disney tracks you when you’re in the parks! Through your MagicBand and My Disney Experience app, Disney can tell which rides you’ve been on, where you’re having lunch, and what your future plans might be.

As creepy as it sounds, they do it to help tailor your experience and make it easier on you. And while Disney is collecting data from your MagicBand, their stated ultimate goal is “to enhance your experience.”
Kids Touch Everything
Okay, this is one you probably already knew but it’s deeply upsetting to us all the same. Disney World is known for being pretty darn clean — Walt made sure that folks are never more than 30 steps from a trash can — but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re germ-free. Kids touch everything, and we don’t mean just with their hands.

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of kids licking handrails, picking their noses, and being generally adorable little miscreants. Forget Mickey, hand sanitizer is your best friend at Disney World!

If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
