NEWS: Fired ‘Star Wars’ Actress Says Disney Made “Horrendous Statements” About Her

Back in February, fired actress Gina Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm — funded by X (Twitter) CEO Elon Musk.

Carano is claiming Disney fired her from her role as Cara Dune on The Mandalorian for her conservative political beliefs, citing wrongful termination and discrimination in the suit. Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet responded to the suit, but now, Carano is sharing her thoughts.

Back in 2021, Carano was fired from her role as Cara Dune on The Mandalorian. Carano is known for being outspoken about her conservative political beliefs, speaking out against mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic, and falsely claiming voter fraud happened during the 2020 Presidential election. Before she was fired, Carano had shared a social media post implying that being a Republican is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.

In February 2024, Carano sued Disney and Lucasfilm for wrongful termination and discrimination. She is asking the court to order Lucasfilm to re-cast her. Carano claims that she was fired for her cultural and religious beliefs. And now, Carano is sharing her thoughts on the firing and lawsuit.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Carano said that following being fired from Disney, she “just laid down and cried and cried.” She continued, “I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me — the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.”

She also shared just how Elon Musk came to be funding her suit. “To my surprise, a few months ago I received an email from a lawyer who had been hired by X to look into my story & many others. Turns out after sending them as much information as I could gather these past few months, my now lawyers & X believe whole-heartedly in my case & are moving forward,” Carano said in a tweet.

Despite never having met or directly communicated with Musk, Carano said, “I think it’s pretty incredible what he is doing. A lot of billionaires put their money into buying islands and building bunkers. Elon Musk is using his money to fight massive injustice battles.”

It’s important to note that Musk and Disney have a tenuous relationship, with Musk previously telling Bob Iger, “Go f–k yourself” after Disney pulled its advertising from his platform, X.

After a series of controversial social media posts, Disney and Lucasfilm reportedly subjected Carano to what she described as a “reeducation camp.” She said it went well, but when Disney asked her to write a public apology, she fought back, and was ultimately fired.

Carano said that after a firing like this, “You become unhirable.”

“And then it becomes okay for other people to disrespect you. And then you’re just carrying around this disrespect, and you’re shouldering all this shame, and it affects your physicality, your mentality. You’re just kind of hopeless. So to be able to fight back — it makes me feel like, ‘Okay. That feels good.’ ”

  1. So she thinks it’s okay for her to say whatever she wants, but not okay if Disney does the same? That’s the thing about free speech: everyone has the same right to it.

  2. Elon said that to Bob but you noticed he said nothing about multiple other media companies that did the same thing. The only difference is the average person could not tell you who any of the CEO’s of those companies are. Bob Iger and Disney are the most visible making them an easy target for the political right.
