Ana Ofelia Murguia, the Voice of Mama Coco, Has Passed Away

Out of all the Disney-Pixar films released within the last decade, Coco remains a fan-favorite.

The film boasts a catchy soundtrack, an important reminder that the love shared in a family can transcend even death, and of course — beloved characters who carry out that message. Coco explores the family history of the main character Miguel’s “Mama Coco.” Yes, the sweet, smiling woman perched on a chair in the Rivera family home captured the hearts of many. Now, the already bittersweet ending of the film will take on a new poignant feeling.

Ana Ofelia Murguia, known for her role in Coco as the voice of Mama Coco, has passed away, ABC reports.

She was 90 years old. The National Theater Company of Mexico initially confirmed her death, stating that Murguia was “vital for the performing arts of Mexico.”

Murguia also starred in several Spanish-language films throughout her life, including the 1995 film “Nobody Will Speak of Us When We’re Dead.”
