DON’T PANIC! What You Should ACTUALLY Do If You Lose Something at the Airport

Let’s face it, when traveling mistakes are bound to happen.

Orlando Airport

Traveling can be a stressful process and flying isn’t an exception. Whether it be finding affordable flights or getting through airport security, traveling by air can be tricky at times. Matters can be made worse when you lose something going through TSA.

It happens to the best of us. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to reclaim lost items if you ever find yourself in the precarious position of losing your belongings during the flying process.

The first thing to remember is that TSA can help you and has protocols in place to retrieve your missing items. You aren’t the first person to lose something and you won’t be the last. When in doubt, talk to TSA.

Transportation Security Administration

If you find your items are missing and don’t have direct access to TSA, visit their lost and found page on the TSA website, where they’ve listed contacts for items left at TSA security checkpoints. If you plug in the airport code on the website, you will find the correct contacts and then can use that department to locate your missing items or bags. Feel free to use the site’s FAQ to learn more about how lost items are handled and returned.

Baggage claim at Orlando International Airport

If you lost an item at the airport and not something out of a checked bag and TSA was unable to find it, you can use the airport’s website to help find whatever you are missing. Someone should be able to point you in the right direction. The moral of the story, essentially, is to ask for help. In addition to keeping you safe and onto your next destination, TSA and airport personnel are also there to assist you, so don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it!

  1. Our daughter, 24 years old, visited Disneyworld in October 2019 with her best friend. On their way home to Australia she realised she had left her ‘Eeyore’ somewhere at Houston airport during the stopover. A quick call to the airport was all that was needed. They found it and posted to Animal Kingdom Lodge where her dad & I were planning to stay in Jan 2020. When we arrived months later it was waiting for us in our room. He had another journey back to Australia in the comfort of a secure bag. He wasn’t getting lost on my watch 🙂
