Everyone Tells You to Spend $30 On This Souvenir in Disney World. Here’s Why We Don’t.

When you go to Disney World, there are a lot of things that people will tell you are a “must-do.” Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks, for example, are seen as an essential part of people’s vacations.

There are also some “must-wear” items that guests always pack for the parks. Maybe you have a small collection of Minnie ears or a closet full of Loungefly bags. Well, there is one Disney item that you may think is essential, but it’s NOT.

Many people say that wearing a MagicBand is an essential part of every Disney vacation. It’s the unspoken outfit addition everyone seems to know to wear! But we’re here to tell you that those pricey accessories are NOT worth the money. Let’s talk about it.

Here’s the thing. MagicBands are fun and all, but if you’re looking to save some money, everything your MagicBand can do, your phone can do, too.

You can unlock your hotel room door, for example, through the My Disney Experience app. You can pay for your food and merchandise via your phone. You can even use your phone as your park ticket!

That said, MagicBands do have a few fun features. Some versions (MagicBand+) light up, vibrate, and interact with various decorations around the Disney parks. But are they worth $30-$60? Probably not. Unless you’re a collector or REALLY want to have a light-up accessory, these things don’t have any special features that justify the cost.

The prices can vary!

So, while everyone may tell you to get a MagicBand for the nostalgia or the novelty of it, we’re here to tell you it’s not necessary. Save that $30+ for a nice meal instead.

There are a LOT of options!

  1. i’m slightly annoyed that the magic bands we have, from 2017, won’t work any more… it would be nice if there was a trade-in program to help the cost a bit
