10 Rules You Should Follow at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is officially underway at Disney World, and we’ve been to so many of these in the past that we have it down to a spooky science.

Yep, even fun stuff like this requires some planning and a few “rules” to ensure that your night goes as smoothly as possible — and so that you experience as much as possible! The good news is that these parties are JAM. PACKED. with lots of fun stuff for you to do, see, and eat. The bad news is that you have a very limited amount of time to do all these things. It can be a lot to take in, so that’s why we’ve come up with a few rules that you should follow while at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Truthfully, we’ve learned the hard way when it comes to many of these pieces of advice, and that’s why we’re telling you to be wary of these things before you go. Now, without further ado, here are 10 rules you should follow while attending your Halloween Party.

1. Don’t dress in a costume that will make you hot.

It might be fall, but the weather is going to feel like summer at Disney World, trust us. Keep this in mind when planning your costumes, and don’t put yourself or your kiddos in a situation where you might overheat.

101 Dalmatians Costumes that are cute and also breezy!

There are plenty of costume options out there that will keep you cool while also keeping you festive. Or, you could just aim for a T-shirt! (We know, that’s not nearly as fun. But on a hot night, it might save ya some sweat and heartache.)

2. Don’t Wear Costumes That Require A Large Prop

If your costume requires you to carry around a prop, either ditch the prop or consider making a smaller version of the prop. Examples of this are Captain America’s shield, Maui’s hook, and Bo Peep’s staff.

Make your costumes obvious enough that you don’t even NEED a prop!

Chances are, you’re not going to be able to take them on to rides, and then you’ll have to carry it around all night and worry about leaving it with a Cast Member, and that’s just not fun.

3. Bring An Extra Bag For Candy

So, here’s the thing. Those people loading your bags up with candy? The VAST majority of these folks are College Program Participants. They’re having fun, and they’re usually READY to load you down with some sweets. You’re going to run out of room FAST if all you have is the bag they’ve given you at the party.

Treats!

Bringing a separate, larger bag that you can eventually put some of your candy in is a great way to ensure that you won’t run out of room and that you also won’t lose any candy. Yeah, now that we mention it, bring a bag with a zipper.

4. Don’t Dress Up As A Cast Member

Okay, yeah, many of you are going to dress up as a Haunted Mansion Maid, and that’s different. We’re talking about the rare situation when someone tries to roll up to the party while rocking a way-too-realistic Guest Relations costume — because believe us, it does happen.

Although you can find some scary-realistic name tags online, maybe don’t?

This is an adorable costume idea for kiddos, but for adults, it can be problematic. Like, imagine a guest needs some help and they walk up to who they think is the nearest Cast Member and it’s just some rando with a party ticket. A great way that we’ve seen people avoid situations like these is to make name tags out of paper and markers/crayons to showcase that, “Hey, I’m not actually a Cast Member and not trying to fool anyone into thinking that I am!”

5. Eat Before The Party Starts

Unless you plan on making a meal out of sweet treats and exclusive party snacks, we’d recommend grabbing a bite to eat before you head into the park, ESPECIALLY if you have small children. While, yes, there are some options available during the party that have some nutrients, they’re usually things that might not be super great for picky eaters.

Would your child eat the wings shown above? No? Alright, head to a restaurant outside of Magic Kingdom before the party starts.

6. Plan Ahead!

There’s so much to do that planning ahead is really the only way to avoid the overwhelm. Using the Party map, plan out your candy stops, which characters you’d like to see, which rides you want to ride, and whether or not you want to see a parade or the fireworks BEFORE the party or as soon as you get there.

This way, you have a game plan and can time things out to where you can experience as many things as possible.

7. Prioritize Treats Over Candy

There are many treats and snacks available to purchase during the Halloween Party that you aren’t able to buy any other time — not even the same day before the party starts.

Of course, you should grab all the candy your heart desires. Like, it’s free and included as a perk of your party ticket. However, save that for when the party is over! Don’t fill up on it while you’re still there! Instead, fill up on all the treats that you can’t grab any other time.

8. Wear Comfortable Shoes With Your Costume

Y’all. We know that Barbie wears heels. We know she wouldn’t be caught dead wearing sneakers with that outfit. But trust us. We have learned the hard way. If there is one piece of advice that you actually heed out of this entire post, let it be this one.

See? Even the Sanderson Sisters are wearing flat shoes.

DO NOT WEAR HEELS OR SHOES THAT GIVE YOU BLISTERS TO MICKEY’S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY. That’s it. *Drops mic.*

9. Don’t Forget To Join the Virtual Queue for TRON

Oh, you didn’t hear? Yep, the virtual queue for TRON is available during the Halloween party. As long as you have a party ticket, you can join the queue starting at 6PM.

For us, the queue was closed at 7:30. We recommend setting an alarm to remind you!

10. REST UP!

If you rope drop a park the morning of your Halloween Party and then stay there until it’s time to go to Magic Kingdom, you’re going to have a loooong night.

A pool day wouldn’t be too shabby!

Either stay out of the parks all day and have a pool day or resort hopping day, or come home between your park day and the party so that you can take a nap. You’ll thank us when it’s 10PM and you’re depending on candy and pumpkin-flavored coffee to keep you awake.

And there you have it! We’ll continue to keep you all updated with all our BEST Disney advice, so make sure to follow along for more.
