UPDATE on a Brand NEW Universal Orlando Attraction

Some exciting things are underway at Universal Orlando.

While we are looking forward to the opening of Universal’s Epic Universe in 2025, there’s a new experience coming to the park a lot sooner than that! Shrek 4-D closed permanently in January 2022 to make way for a new attraction. We have since learned that the space is going to be home to Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, which opens this summer. Earlier this week, we noticed some exciting progress made to the building.

Previously, we have noticed that Minions from the Despicable Me! franchise had graced the building, as well as imagery of the Vicious 6 from Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Villain-Con will be replacing Shrek 4-D

Universal says that this “interactive, blaster game experience will invite guests to put their villainous skills to the test as they compete against each other in a bid to join the ranks of the franchise’s most infamous supervillains.” Most recently, Universal added a sign on this building that features these villains.

You can see the five team members: Svengeance, Stronghold, Belle Bottom, Nunchuck, and Jean Clawed.

This new experience will be opening this summer as part of the new Minion Land on Illumination Ave. You’ll also find Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, a new Minion Café, and “other surprises inspired by popular characters from Illumination’s blockbuster franchises.”
