As most amazing stories do, this story starts with a child that had a dream. A dream to be something more than what he currently envisioned himself as.
Anthony Smith didn’t want to wear his hearing aid because it was never something that his heroes and role models had in common with him. After his mother wrote about their situation, Marvel had something to say about it.
It started as a kind gesture to make Anthony an honorary Avenger but has since turned into so much more!
After some hard work and continued effort to get this story created in the Marvel Universe, Bill Roseman was able to compile the duo of writer Marc Sumerak and artist Karl Moline to create the debut of The Blue Ear alongside Iron Man. The story that came out of this was titled, Iron Man: Sound Effects.
The Blue Ear brought representation to the community, along with Marvel heroes before including Hawkeye who is also deaf and is set to wear hearing aids in the upcoming Disney+ series.
This story began as many others do, with a child that had a dream. A dream to be something more. Marvel took this dream and made it a reality for Anthony and millions of others like him who now have someone to look up to and relate to.
