It’s been a difficult year for many individuals as we navigate our new “normal” and the things that have returned back to the way they were before.

But, today we lost a Disney legend who has brought magic, light, and music to many of our lives.
Comic Book has shared Samuel E. Wright, the voice actor of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, has passed away at 74 years old. According to the official Facebook page for Montgomery, New York (where he lived), “Sam and his family have impacted countless Hudson Valley youth always inspiring them to reach higher and dig deeper to become the best version of themselves. On top of his passion for the arts and his love for his family, Sam was most known for walking into a room and simply providing PURE JOY to those he interacted with. He loved to entertain, he loved to make people smile and laugh and he loved to love.”

Along with the original The Little Mermaid movie, Wright also voiced Sebastian on The Little Mermaid TV series, the direct-to-video Little Mermaid 2, the House of Mouse TV series, and more. His two major songs from The Little Mermaid franchise, Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl,” were nominated for Academy Awards as the soundtrack became a many times over Multi-Platinum album.

He also provided his voice to Disney’s Dinosaur as well in 2000, as well as other non-Disney related shows. Wright acted onstage as well in musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar and Pippin, but notably originated the role of Mufasa for The Lion King musical.

We send our thoughts to Samuel E. Wright’s family during this time. Thank you for all the wonderful memories, Samuel.
