It has been a challenging year for Cast Members at the Disney Parks and Resorts.
Many Cast Members have been called back to work after the initial furloughs last year thanks to limited park capacity, more hotels and dining locations reopening, and entertainment slowly returning to the parks. But, there are still Cast Members awaiting their call to return to the parks. And, to help out, many community members are coming together to create a new and innovative way to show support.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, a new store called Cast Co-op will be opening this weekend near Disney World in Cagnan Crossings, Clermont to support laid-off hospitality workers in the area.
The nonprofit-run store will be a place where workers who are still furloughed or have seen a cut in their hours can come to pick up free groceries and household supplies. Plus, part of the store will be open to the general public and will be a space where displaced Disney workers who have an entrepreneurial spirit can sell their own homemade items for extra income.
Located in Clermont, the new store will open for the first time on April 24th from 12PM to 5PM. Then, moving forward, the Cast Co-op will open three days a week on Sundays from 12PM to 5PM and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10AM to 3PM. Those who are interesting in seeking support from the shop will need to fill out an online eligibility form prior to heading to the store.
