NEWS: Japan Has Extended Their State of Emergency. What Could This Mean for Tokyo Disneyland?

With the world in an ongoing health crisis, Tokyo Disneyland has had to extended their closure multiple times. Its home country of Japan has also been in a state of emergency since April 7th.

As the state of emergency end date draws near, the Japanese prime minister has announced that the government will be extending the country’s state of emergency until the end of the month.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the restrictions will remain in place through May 31st, but then promised to begin relaxing some of them to help Japan’s economy begin to recover. Currently included in the closures are schools and non-essential businesses.

What could this mean for Tokyo Disneyland? The resort is currently closed until mid-May, at which time they will reassess and determine if another extension is warranted.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shared that he hopes to begin preparing for the reopening of businesses very soon, saying that, “We need to build a new normal as soon as possible.” We will continue to bring updates as we learn more about any potential extensions to Tokyo Disneyland’s closure.
