Earlier today, the newest entry of the Disney Designer collection made its debut on shopDisney!
Created by iconic Imagineer Joe Rohde, the steampunk-inspired Ears couldn’t have arrived on any better day than Earth Day!
However, as quickly as they arrived, the Joe Rohde Disney Designer Ears that debuted on shopDisney this morning are already gone…and they’re being re-sold for big bucks on third-party sites.
Disney has seen several of their limited-edition items and collection sell out quickly recently. This past weekend, they debuted the “it’s a small world” line for the Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction collection. Within an hour of their debut, most items in the line had sold out.

The ears really should’ve had the earring hanging from the flap. I was totally hoping to see that.
I was online on time at 7:00 AM pacific, as soon as the ears appeared, and got a good refresh of the site and a pair into my bag by 7:01AM. When I saw the $78 cost, I hesitated for a few seconds at checkout deciding if I really wanted to spend that much on yet another piece of Disney swag. By the time I convinced myself to hit that checkout button just before 7:02 AM, the stock was already gone. These things literally sold out in under a minute. And I was fully intending to keep them for myself…not to sell them for profit (If I wanted to scalp them, I would have clicked straight on through without hesitation just to get the pair to resell).
According to the lady I talked to over chat, CM Angela, these ears will never be back, and they are VERY well-aware of the ebay scalpers, bot users, and resellers, and yet they choose to do nothing about it! The product didn’t even show up on the site at 10:00 am EST, not by search or the New category. Something needs to be done about these bots. It’s simply not fair.
